Albanese: Voters expect leaders to 'take responsibility'

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says he “did know the figures” for unemployment and the cash rate and denied he made the numbers up.

It comes after Mr Albanese got his election campaign trail up to a bad start after flubbing the figures for the rates in the first week.

Mr Albanese said when he makes errors, he will own up to them - which is something he claimed Prime Minister Scott Morrison “will never do”.

“I took responsibility, I put my hand up, and I did that; I didn’t try to blame someone else, I didn’t try to blame an advisor or blame a state government or blame persons unknown,” he told 2GB’s Ray Hadley on Tuesday morning.

“What people expect from their leaders isn’t perfection; I’m human; what they expect though, is they’ll take responsibility for the things that count.”
