I absolutely *love* Atwood's writing in "The Handmaid's Tale" and "The Testaments." I'm glad to see that someone is able to shrink down the story into something more digestable.

Just for information, Gilead is pronounced with a HARD "G". It's not "Jill-ead"...it's GILL-ead.

I hate when a book or movie ends in a mystery where the reader has no idea how the story ends. If I have to come up with my own ending, I may as well come up with my own beginning and middle and not have ever bothered with it at all.

Isn't that the case for Afghanistan women?

I read this book when it was first released, in the eighties, inspired by the Reagan administration.
It's not one I wanted to read again.
But I've been impressed with the renewed popularity with the miniseries and then the streaming television series.
And particularly now, when what's left of the Republican Party seems to be striving to establish Gilead here and now.

Kersten came swiftly to Kamala's defense when the Repugs came at her. How badass is THAT?!!
