Not all people like all people and not all dogs need to like everything and everyone around them! Some people just have a hard time accepting it. The sad thing is even when you tell someone no, if they get bit, it's gonna be your fault because it's your dog. And that is disgusting. No MEANS FUCKING NO.

People should know to ALWAYS ask "Can I pet your dog?" "Can I give your dog a treat?" Etc...
And know to not always trust the owners judgement either.
I've had so many people over the years(I'm in rescue so I see a lot of dogs), say that their dog is friendly, doesn't bite, etc..
You never know for sure! If you're a stranger to the dog, always be cautious.

Happens to my pit bull all of the time. I tell people to give her space but they continue to invade it until she reacts. Please respect what I tell you

I agree that is a human problem. I train all my dogs to not eat from the ground and never take any food from anyone else. My psycho English next door neighbors just poisoned my cat. Dogs are good judges of character and spirit. Respect your dog's boundaries. If my dogs don't like somebody, there is a reason. I just don't know the reason yet. They know.

Thank you for posting this....AMEN!!!! This is exactly what has happened to my malinois. Have the no pet collar and harness and ppl still do stupid things like reaching for her head to pet. I truly believe the average person believes that all dogs want to be pet or given treats by anyone.

I had a giant dog that outweighed me by at least 20lbs and people would get in her face all the time without even asking if she was ok with that kind of interaction. It was insane. I had to yell at some people to get them to understand that a dog that size could kill both of us in an instant. She was an absolute teddy bear but still

I had was a child running on all fours while barking, straight towards my large dog - all while the parent just watches and ignores my yelling.

I thought the dog I walk loved ALL people until people proved me wrong. Just best to keep folks out of her space. She’ll go to them if she likes them.

If someone tries to touch me without my consent, it infuriates me. People have no idea the trauma and boundaries of others and have forgotten about CONSENT! This applies to dogs, too. I let a dog approach me and smell me before I ever acknowledge it or even consider petting it. They have to give consent, too. Not all dogs want to be or are okay with being petted.

I hate when random people wanna pet my dog. It is so nice when people just respect your space and don’t force them selves on you. Some people get so offended if you say no. All my neighbours think I’m mean cause I don’t allow my dog around them to pet and interact with. 😂 he’s not really people reactive tho. Only occasionally if people are weird and stare at him. If they ignore him he’s all good.

I have a small dog, toy breed. We live in an apartment building and sometimes take the elevator, which is a smaller elevator. Always, people want to pet my dog on the elevator. The dog is trapped in a small space, the body language looks intimidating to the dog, spatial pressure is a problem. So, I have trained my dog to go behind me, and I use my body and leg to block would be petters. I do get a lot of people get mad at me, take it personally, but I shrug her off. My dog is calm and well behaved on the elevator and he is a very excitable dog.

Ran into this on vacation a few weeks ago. Woman in car comments how beautiful our dog is, asks to approach and understands when I deny stating she is young and still somewhat reactive to strange people. Her husband then walks up to their car (from another location) and immediately approaches our dog after noticing that we had been speaking to his wife. Luckily his interaction with our pup was positive and no harm done. But I was upset that he didn’t ask permission. It could have gone very wrong indeed!

I have a labrador retriever who is good with strangers but there is a thing he will only be good with the strangers that I am good with as well so if I'm greeting someone who won't bark at all instead he would go give them a sniff and won't be aggressive but if I'm kind of scared or nervous towards that stranger he would bark and his fur and tail would stand up almost like nails

When they ask if they can pet, I ask if my dog can bite them!! 😂😂😂😂

This is a common problem and there are so many selfish people out there who create issues all the time, as we all know.

I am the world's worst with not wanting to pet every dog I I am working on it though and teaching my kids to ask before they touch

I've come back out from the shop and people stick their fingers through the squares in the cage to pat the dogs on the back of the ute, not even having a physical barrier around them stops people
