I love your comment about not blaming the camera. I picked up my Nikon D810 used while in Alaska doing wildlife and landscapes. It seems the gentleman who purchased was displeased with it because he couldn't get a good photo with it. I looked at it and saw several problems with it right away, and it wasn't the camera. There were about a dozen idiotic settings on the menu, including being set to take double exposures. I got it from him at a HUGE discount, and it was basically a new camera. The model had only been released three months previous. He couldn't get a decent photo with it and I've garnished several awards with it. It has also paid for itself. When a camera underperforms, the first place the user should look to try to find the problem is in the mirror.

As always, very well done Nigel! Laughed at your talk on distractions at 1:27 when suddenly we see a brown and white Pebbles distraction.

"Mistake number 1: not worrying about distractions..." *Pebbles runs around maniacally in the background* 😂🤣

Another thoughtful and informative video. Great stuff and images. I particularly loved the baby portrait of Pebbles. Gorgeous. She did make me laugh out loud at the start of your talk about avoiding distractions. She was show-jumping a fallen tree and galloping about around you. Nice touch Nigel!

You're talking yourself out of business Nigel (ha ha!)...this is a workshop on a video!!...thanks so much for being so relaxed in your talk...the wisdom is intrinsic..(within me but also within you too)xx so you bring out the knowledge that one gets but then forgets..ie blaming my camera.

I've committed every one of these, especially avoiding going out in less than ideal weather. Thanks for reminding me that making excuses only hurts my development as a photographer. I need the comeuppance, so thanks.

Thank you, Nigel. I just discovered your videos and really appreciate them. Love your website, particularly the Trees section...I love photographing trees as well--one of my favorite subjects.

There is some good advice on here for beginners or people just starting out in photography, I just wish these programmes were available in the 60s (or was they?) however going out in bad weather needs thinking about for a 75+ year old....sitting by a warm fire watching your video is more appealing. Of course I do go out a few times of the year in bad weather but its now getting fewer and fewer, so thank you very much Nigel for sharing your video on here I found it was very interesting again....

I just looked, two hours after the release, at your video because I was out early this morning to use the fresh snow for my “Silver Birch Project”. Your 7 tips are inspiring me to return again to my local low land area to improve my “Project collection”.Thanks for sharing Nigel

The expression "improve your photography" means taking steps that result in images adhering to expected color, exposure, layout, relationships, cropping, etc. When painters first saw Van Gogh's work or that of Matisse they criticized it because it did not adhere to the expected standards and qualities. Those 'experts' later realized they were wrong.

Super tips on how to make shots better. I admit I had to go back and re-watch the part where Pebbles was darting in and out of the frame...good example of distractions, unintentional or not...thanks again for my Sunday fix.

Allow enough time to enjoy and understand the location and the light. Like this suggestion a lot!

Another mistake: Watching videos of camera gear you can't afford.

Love it, your first point, not caring about Pebbles running across the frame behind you 😂🐶
