I’m really glad there are more people like you, Yowana, Nico Felich, etc. making running content that is not just based around shoe reviewing/product pushing. For me the most useful shoe review is the “after 100 miles” type of thing. Your video here is really well done and straight forward. My favorite pair of shoes has been the NB More v4 and I’ve gotten 500 miles out of a pair and just started to use a fresh pair.
I’ve been running seriously for about 3 years and have really benefited from your channel coming along.

Great with some shoe education! 👏Knew most of this already, but doesn't hurt to be reminded. I usually stop using my daily trainers after about 800-900 km, and then use the ones that I can for daily walking instead. Loved the tips on how to still utilize worn shoes 😁

Just went online and purchased a pair of Ghost 16s after putting 700-800 miles on my daily Ghost 15s (virtually all treadmill miles though). I have felt a small bit of feet pain lately so this video came at the perfect time. Thank you!

As long as you want them to. as long as your form is great. I have trained in my racing flats in the past up to 90 mile weeks and probably put a lot of miles on them.

I’m personally guilty of going through shoes too often as a hobbyist victim of shoetube; it’s too tempting to be the consumer and by the newest versions. I swear it’s a healthy habit because it makes me get out and put in some miles and it’s fun to try different shoes. I try to get 400 miles out of trainers and retire racers after 100 miles for races and try to get another 100 miles out of them with some training after. I do think these numbers have been generally low as I’ve moved on from shoes that I thought had a lot of life left to move on to a newer version or different shoe. These are the minimum numbers I’m comfortable with so I can maintain my identity as a runner, not a shoe consumer haha.

The Vomero is great. If you like the Pegasus you’ll love these. They’re very similar.

Thank you for mentioning shoes losing some "pop" over time. My NB Rebel v.4 have felt flat since I went over 250 miles. I'm up to 300 miles at the moment. Maybe it's time to rotate them out.

Use of a shoe is a bell shaped curve, not ramping continuum. Shoes 'peak' and while serviceable after that peak or sweetest spot for another 100 or 200 miles, you're running in a shoe that has seen better days and delivered better performance. That messes with my head, I only want to run in a shoe that's getting better and better, not gradually declining (and I know it and can feel it whilst running). Once I sense a shoe has peaked, though I can certainly get another 100 or 200 miles out of it easy - I choose not do, it's out the rotation. As a road runner with a 26 bmi, I can grind a shoe. 30 runs or 180 miles, which ever comes first, that's my policy toward a shoe. I'm lucky in that I can run just fine in a no frills shoe and thus only buy new old inventory (NB 880 v.12, v13, Saucony Guide/Ride 15 and 16, Adrenaline 20, 21, etc.) for $50 or less so I don't mind dumping a shoe just after half of it's useful life - and it's gets donated.

It’s weird to me that you know how many miles you have in your first running shoes. I wasn’t even thinking about that stuff when I got into running

My invincible v1 sole separated before the midsole felt “dead”. I guess glue is the problem in my case.

Luke, have you ever had IT band issues? If so, how did you fix it?

Something not mentioned here is weight. I hit the gym very hard in covid and have put 20 lbs of muscle on my previously slender runner body. My shoes wear out 20% faster now, and it took me a while to realize it. I was just give myself low grade injuries by running on blown out shoes. I used to be a 500-600 mile replacer, but I'm 400 mile replacement now. It's been much better.

Dude I think you’re shoes might last that long because you weigh like 115lbs. I’m in the 200+ club and my OnCloudMonsters and Asics Nimbus26 only lasted like 200 miles each before my feet started hurting
