9 Things Your Nails Can Tell You About Your Health

Nails are the last thing to grow back after an injury or illness, so they're a great indicator of your overall health and well-being.

Nails grow at a rate of about 0.1 mm per day, which is why they are such a good way of knowing how your body is functioning.

They also have nerves that send information back to the brain when they are touched or injured. This can be really useful if you want to know whether an injury is serious!

Nails can be affected by diseases such as psoriasis, diabetes, and kidney disease. They can also reveal whether you have any deficiencies in key nutrients like zinc, iron, or vitamin B12. In this video, we are going to be talking about some interesting things your nails might be trying to tell you about your overall health.

My Chinese doctor said my ridged nails were a sign of a problem with my lungs. He got me to have a scan and found a very rare cancer called Langerhans cell Histiocytosis …he has since retired but I will forever be grateful to him for his wisdom and observation.

Unfortunately doctors and nurses do NOT check nails and toenails. You have to be your own advocate. Thank you for this information.

Interesting fact: I had surgery and had on my usual nail polish using dip powder (no artificial tips). After surgery my oxygen readings were low and I had to go on oxygen. They kept reading my oxygen levels with end of finger clip on device. After a few weeks of being on oxygen with continued low readings, another nurse made me turn my finger 90 degrees within the clip and my oxy levels were great. She said the nail polish can interfere with the readings!

I have been taking calcium and bioton supplements and eating more veggies and ive seen a huge difference in my nails. My nails have always been very soft and they rip very easily but when I eat well its 100% better

Castor oil has been helping a lot of health issues reported on youtube lately. I wonder if rubbing it into the nails before bed if it would help heal them.

My ten nails have always been ridged, as long as I can remember, they never caused me any problems,

I should have seen this 1-2 yrs ago. I had a vertical line on both my toe nails. I took a clippers to them & found the dark lines were not attached to nail bed. I have been cutting the nails really short, now they are both becoming lifted & thick. My doctor didn't even seem concerned

I got ridged nails after being in hospital some years ago for a month with pneumonia ‘n pleurisy & having a VATS decortication procedure. Whether it was the pneumonia or the large constant doses of IV antibiotics, I have no idea, but I’ve had longitudinal ridges ever since. Also heaps of wrinkles appeared at every joint in my knuckles too. They’re still there too.

I'm watching this video in Thailand. I have been suffering from ridged nails more prominent on the left hand. Is there any cause for concern?

I went to the dermatologist a few weeks ago to get my annual mole check. I told the nurse lady that asks a bunch of questions before the doctor comes in, that I wanted my nails looked at because I have pitting, bad ridges and beaus lines. Doctor comes in and does mole check and I forgot to ask him about my nails. Wouldn't it have been written down? Why did she even ask me then? So I still don't know if it's a concern or not without making another appointment.

Vinegar baths have helped me fend off fungus. It also relieved the itching from athlete's foot.

Vertical nail ridges are common as we age and nothing to worry about. For athlete's foot on your toenails the most effective treatment is fast and cheap—apply Clorox using cotton balls. 💕☮🌎🌌

My mom and grandma(nurse) taught me to never wear nail polish when going to the doctors office ... so they can check the health of your body, including some systemic diseases. 💅🛑

Happy Preparation Day and It seems that "Chronic nail biting" is hereditary in Jamaica 💯🇯🇲

The texture and hardness of my nails has changed due chemotherapy. They have way more ridges, but they're also much stronger. Lousy way for my nails to finally improve in my 60s.
