Honestly, my favorite scene in the movie. Every little mannerism Hiddleston brings out, and you can see Loki's mounting frustration from "Eh, why not?" to "Goddamnit why not MEEEE!!!" without him saying a word.

There's something so perfect about Loki's subtle frustration. After living in Thor's shadow for centuries, now he seems to have everything he ever wanted. He's sitting on the throne of Asgard, while his muscle-headed brother is stranded on earth, powerless and humiliated. But there's still that...one...thing...that he doesn't have.

Just realized, Loki thinks he's worthy, because in his mind, all this travesty and manipulation is justified. He thinks banishing his brother and massacring the frost giants is the right thing to do. So when he tries to lift the hammer, it's almost a sobering moment of, "oh shit, I might be the bad guy, " he just doesn't let himself reflect on it.
