Everyone is freaking out about Britain leaving the EU. But what if it helps the remaining countries get more done?

The EU isn’t meant to be just like the USA, with strong national pride. It was meant to be a political and economic union, nothing less, nothing more.

As a german I grew up feeling connected to Spain, France, Britain and all the other countries in some way; the EU way. Since when did not working together became a thing? We can do better than now. Just like any other kind of relationship it needs compromises and development. Let's do this!

I myself feel more European than German. Everyone is just complaining about how the EU is not working and say that we should dismantle it. But why shouldn't we change it to a better version of itself?
It actually wouldn't be that hard.
Give the European parliament the right of initiative, make European party's possible (there's actually a yet small but growing party which tries exactly that, the party is called Volt Europa), get rid of the EU commission and replace it with a better and more democratic system.

That way we would have a more democratic European Union and the people itself could decide on how much the EU should influence their lives. Do we want to give the EU more competences and power or less?
That the people could decide if the EU was more democratic.

Keep that in mind when going to vote the next time. Cheers!

That's a lovely Ivory Coast flag. They're not in the EU though

An American lectures Europeans on British people's views on them.

About as accurate as the title suggests

I like Europe, it makes me feel proud to call myself that. I like every single thing about it.

Calling Brussels a "belgium city" instead of calling it by name hurts.

I'm Irish and it's greatly important to me to be able to travel, trade and work around Europe without constantly needing visas and permits.

I feel great camaraderie with my German, French, Spanish etc... neighbours, I nearly always get a warm reception when I visit fellow EU countries. This is an unspoken benifit of membership.

These factors along with the mitigation of conflict among members make the EU a good thing and I am grateful for it.

The potential progress of the EU is promising. The UK was a major obstacle of progress in unification. The EU needs a uniting catalyst, an enemy or a goal of the people, something that will make a Frenchman say "Our brothers in Poland".

I didn't know the Ivory Coast was in Europe.

I’m a young European of the age of 26 and I have a strong patriotic feeling about the EU. I’d turn in my German passport anytime if I would get a European one instead!

yes the EU has tons of problems, what doesn't? nothing is perfect, especially where there's power, lots of people with rotten intentions are gonna hop in. still, it has brought many good things to people who travel and do business across european countires but i guess the people who never left their hometown dont know about that so to them the eu is just bad.

Just providing some feedback on the video, the second half of it was much stronger than the first. From about 1:04 to 1:28, you didn't really explain *why* any of that would be the case. How would the circumstances have changed to bring any of that about? Beyond that, good video.

This video does a very poor job explaining anything. They briefly mention the Coal and Steel industry and they mostly focused on childish animations rather than making any strong points with support. The knowledge about the EU is about the same with the comment section.

As a European, I feel more patriotic to Europe than I do my home country.

If you think the UK will get a "good" deal with the EU, you're delusional. When they were in the EU, they already got unfairly more advantages than the rest of the members, and they still weren't satisfied. The EU will make an example out of Britain to show what happens when you think you're better of alone, to stimulate the union. It's not vindictive, these are just the consequences of the sheer unwilling attitude to work together. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

As a Spaniard being part of the EU is more of a brotherhood than anything. Are our cultures, customs and way of life vividly different? Yes. Would we still help if something happened to one of our brothers? Absolutely. At the end of the day we are always stronger as a unit when we put our differences aside and move in a direction together.
