Modding Oblivion THE EASY WAY - Part 1 | The Basics

So, you want to mod Oblivion? Maybe you’ve dabbled into modding here and there, but you just can’t seem to get the hang of it, or maybe it’s your first time playing and you’re put off by the outdated graphics. Well, no matter the case, this guide will teach you not only how to install basically any mod made for this game, but I’ll also be showing you how to visually overhaul Oblivion to make it look like it could’ve been released today.

0:00 - Intro
0:51 - Foreword

YOU WON'T NEED TO USE THESE THREE BELOW IF YOU FOLLOW THE PINNED COMMENT (apart from Wrye Bash, but that's only for the Bashed Patch if you so choose):

EDIT (1/09/2021), READ THIS COMMENT IN ITS ENTIRETY AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS:

When I published this video, Wrye Bash and OBMM were the only reliable ways to install Oblivion mods. Now, in 2021, Mod Organizer 2 is a superior option to both of these. Though the instructions in the video still work, MO2 is a more robust and easy-to-use tool which I'd recommend. It's pretty easy to set up and install, there are a multitude of tutorials online, and it has the advantage of being able to both install regular and OMOD mods. However, Wrye Bash is still useful for its Bashed Patch feature, where you can build a patch which merges changes from multiple mods into one. If you want to make a Bashed Patch, be sure to launch Wrye through MO2's launcher function to allow the program to see your modlist. The bashed patch will be sent to MO2's overwrite section when its built, and you can make a new, empty mod and transfer the file to that mod instead.

You'll still have to install the 4GB Patch and OBSE externally, and BOSS can be replaced with MO2's in-build sorting function, found just above your load order, which is different from your mod list. The mod list is the large box on the left, and your load order is the smaller box on the right, where all of your mods which contain .esp files will show up. You'll also have to go into the Modify Executables section (the drop-down box with the Oblivion title on it, and click edit) after installing OBSE, and tick the Force Load Libraries button. Then, click Configure Libraries and check the box next to Oblivion.exe.

To install mods with MO2, click the button at the top which, when hovered over, says "install a new mod from an archive." Then, simply select the mod and install. When playing a game modded with MO2, make sure to launch the game through MO2, or make a desktop shortcut of Oblivion using MO2. If you don't launch the game through MO2, mods installed using the program won't load, meaning you'll just be playing vanilla with the external mods we download in this guide, such as ENB.

I may make an updated guide later, maybe not. Oblivion is a game I'd rather spend time playing than troubleshooting now. However, don't be surprised if Skyrim or Morrowind content ends up on this channel some time in the future! The modding scenes there are a lot more active and exciting, so I may try my hand at a mod showcase series or a playthrough of some sort. Feel free to leave your suggestions in the replies.

Appreciate your service here sir. Concise and to the point without dragging you into the unending madness of modding rabbithole that kept me from playing this again. You made it understandable for simple peasants like me who just want to run the game smoothly and without stability issues while keeping it as vanilla as possible (even potato heads yes)

I'ma be honest with ya chief... even as dumbed down and simplified as I'm sure this is, I still had smoke coming out of my ears by the end of it.

Thanks a lot man. Just got a new pc, and love these old games but they’re pretty hard to start out modding. If you upload a part 2 I’ll be all over it! Keep it up man, this was helpful as hell.

This guide is amazing! Very easy to follow, and thorough enough without all the extra hoopla that some guides include. Thanks a bunch!!!

Dude, thank you. I looked for a couple other tutorials online but they had me download so much more stuff and I got very confused. I appreciate your video

Really appreciate your pace in your video, it really gives you enough time to get your things in order while modding along in real time with the video. Thank you, was a nice refresher and I got my game base setup again.

After re-installing Oblivion, be sure to run the game at least once before continuing with the guide, as that generates files necessary for some mods to work correctly.

Darnified. The first mod I've ever installed on Oblivion and the only one I accept as a UI overhaul. Good job!

I see some people are asking if this is still up to date and yes it is and some questions that come up now are that steam doesn't have that option anymore or it is longer showing but it it's just not shown the same is all, just go in oblivion in you're steam library then click on the settings cog icon (or right click the game like he did in the video) and then Properties > Installed Files > Browse local files or just Manage > Brose Local files easy peasy
