The Story of the popular boy's toys by Palitoy.
Action Man was originally produced and sold in the United Kingdom and Australia by Palitoy Ltd of Coalville, Leicestershire from 1966 until 1984 (Palitoy also offered sub-licences to various toy manufacturers in various markets).

The figure and accessories were originally based on the Hasbro (US) 1964 G.I. Joe figure (for 1966–1969 production). Hasbro's G.I. Joe figure was patented in 1966.[1] Even the specific method of attaching the appendages was patented as a "Connection for Use in Toy Figures".The first Action Man figures were Action Soldier, Action Sailor and Action Pilot. All were available in the four original hair colours: Blonde, Auburn, Brown and Black. They were accompanied by outfits depicting United States Forces of WWII and the Korean War. In later years, the figures and accompanying uniforms and accessories would reflect the forces of the United Kingdom rather than the USA. Action Man was subsequently reintroduced in 1993, based on the G.I. Joe Hall of Fame figure of that time.

"Two words, Star Wars. Soon as the movie went on big screen, children only wanted to play with space toys."

Boys of Britain haven't abandoned us!
I guess as a Russian born, South African raised female I am the exception but my 1970s Action Man is special to me. Battered and missing his hands he is the most precious toy in my collection. I got him second hand and well loved. He is retired now, on a wine farm with a new Barbie friend. Having well earned rest but still getting an odd itch to get back into action.
Your video is amazing.

Okay I cried unashamedly at this. It's like giving my childhood a hug and tell it "I love you."

I am this action man.... an unwanted toy, thats not gonna sit around waiting to be recycled. I felt this story. The confusion, the desire to persevere, the aspect of being a man out of his time n place, but one still with a mission to complete..., the disenchantment.... n finally the hope, triumph n pride. This video is a masterwork of stop motion, voice acting, pop culture history and emotional rollercoasting. Bravo. Cheers from NY USA :)

I swear they used to sell action man toys in the 2000’s, because it was only 20 years ago and I swear they were new ones

I was 5 years old in the late 1960's and was given an Action Man who wore an orange jumpsuit, blue hat and had black boots. I was later sent the Victorian deep-sea diver outfit after collecting cut-out stars on the box, which was amazing. Happy times !

Action Man deserves a Victoria Cross. Dudes been through millions of battles, on land, sea, space, air and wherever the kid owner's imaginations took them. He even did Judo and Football in his time off, and like an old soldier, he will never die.

LONG LIVE ACTION MAN!

Action man should have never discontinued. Better than those little star war figures. They should bring them back

I love this video. I'm 53 now, and still own my collection of my youth Action men, even expanded it a bit some years ago.

I still love them, allways making some of them guard my living room, one of them is looking right now from the bookshelf to me, wearing camo and an Australian bush hat, armed with an Lee Enfield...

A bit out of work and money right now, but looking forward to buy more stuff.

Don’t know why this suddenly showed up in my recommended videos in 2023 but what a treat.
It brought back a wave of nostalgia for this eternal man child born in 58.
My best friend and I both had collections though his was definitely better than mine, complete with jeep and bearded frogman.
We used to set up really elaborate forts and scenarios and borrow my dads 120 camera and slides of the action, truly living up to the name. Not too bad for 10 year olds!
Watching your film I can hear the tune and words of the action man tv advert, not even thought about this for nearly 50 years, it went something like:
Action man is here,
Action man is there,
On land and sea and in the air,
You’ll find him everywhere.

Brave and fearless, he’s a fighter,
No assignment ever troubles him.
Action man is here,
Action man is there.

Love this!
Action Man was very prevalent during my childhood, and I believe was part of what set me in motion with training...as well as Rocky of course!

Today I bought a 30 cm man at a flea market. The soldier was not wearing trousers, but he had a machine gun on his shoulder, and wheels were mounted on his back and forearms. I didn’t know what movie this man was from. Because I was born in 2008 in Moscow. But through a search, I found this educational film and learned about Action Man. Good mood to everyone and more of your favorite toys! 🎉🎉🎉

Sheer genius! I'm repairing an old Action Man from my childhood, cos it seemed like a fun thing to do, and came across this video. The video - the documentary, really - is beautifully made, and the two-second reaction shot at 8'33" is absolutely perfect. The whole thing has left me with a daft old lump in my throat. Thanks, Rob. *applause*
