Tesla should make it so their cars can hear honks, and respond by using the outdoor speaker systems to say, in a deep, tinny, and robotic voice: "DO NOT HONK AT US, HUMAN."

According to law,

“the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is on the half of the roadway on which the vehicle is traveling or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger, but a pedestrian shall not suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into a path of a vehicle that is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield.”

This means that any pedestrian who is *on the roadway* and in or approaching your half of it had right-of-way.

For the cross walks, when I’m the pedestrian, I prefer if the cars keeps going unless it’s really busy. If they stop, I have to wait to make sure they are actually stopping, and then cross, but if they just went through without slowing down I could just cross right after them. The driver doesn’t waste time stopping, and I don’t have to try and judge if they are actually stopping, win-win. However if it’s busy and I can’t find a gap to cross, it is nice to stop.

I know you don't watch the screen in these situations, but the tentacle seems to clearly indicating its intentions in all the creep situations! It uses length to indicate that it will not enter the intersection when cars/people are in the way. Whenever the tentacle jumps long, then the car goes. I also noticed that the colour of the tentacle also shows intention... the car will only go where there are green dots and uses gray to indicate that it plans to go there, but must not move at the moment.

You added the ultra wide pano roof cam. Yes, yes, yes. I think I prefer all on instead of fade in and out.

Love the 360º setup (and the HDMI setup with the screen was VERY much worth the purchase!)

When you pass the bus on the left (both times), in real life I would have slowed down to see if any pedestrian was starting to cross behind the bus. Do you think the autopilot should do that too?

Excellent training ground/footage for crossing pedestrians!
While not perfect it’s at least pretty safe already.

Love it when you said lots of people at the bus stop “wonder how many are rendered”. In the UK, when someone is really, falling over, drunk we say they are rendered. 😂😂😂

When version 10 gets it right, it’s literally near-perfect. When version 10 gets it wrong, it’s not as bad wrong as version 9.xx was. Very happy to see such progress in version 10. Busy pedestrian instances in big cities is where I see the hardest challenges for autonomous driving. I agree that it should always yield to pedestrians but I have been in many situations where if I wasn’t assertive with my driving, I would never get a sufficient gap in pedestrians to continue on. Chicago at lunch comes to mind. Thanks, great video.

Dojo can't come soon enough! So that FSD is updated at least once a week.
Thanks for sharing!

It looks like the car yields to people at the edge of the crosswalk or walking towards it not just standing away from it

Regarding the Stop sign @13:53 it was occluded. Myself I would have ran that stop sign if it was my first time driving on that road.
Remember that FSD does not use true HD maps and drives on any road like it's for the first time, thus it has no advance knowledge of lanes, the shape of the intersection, etc.
On the other hand it's known that FSD has a map of stoplights and stops signs loaded. If for some reason that particular sign or others on this stretch of road would not be on it's maps and also occluded then the car would sail on through.
As humans we only know in advance the shape, configuration, stop signs and stoplights at intersections because of our memory.

DT: "She sees my car moving, she's not going to step in front of it."
Literally every A2 pedestrian: <steps out>

0:57 I just want to commend you for stating the difference between how you normally approach FSD Beta vs for your videos

So many little things that stand out that hint at what I'm sure will be a sudden jump that will happen very soon. The program is just showing so much more confidence and it's improving on thinking ahead and planning things further in the future. Just a short while ago that crazy mix of pedestrians, bikes, cars, and the confusion they add to driving would have caused the program to disengage. Now it hangs in there and even showed some graceful recoveries to mistakes. These are great things to see. It's ready to make a jump as soon as we see the single stack get rolled out. It reminds me of a young driving school kid just getting the feeling of class. It's coming alive and gaining the foresight it lacked. The difference in driving with a plan and reactive driving where you just react to what happens. The awaking has began.

Hi Chris! Glad to finally know your name, lol! You probably have very different feel in the driver's sit from our POV, but it seems to me that you could wait a little bit more before disengaging. You do give it more freedom than, say, Kim Paquette, but still seems like an over concerned parent, watching over his kid that just learned how to drive. Love your videos. Specially the editing, where you fast forward the boring parts instead of cutting them out altogether.
