When you said controversial meat, I thought you meant horse, but I totally understand why it's veal.

"White brisket" almost sounds like a euphimism for human flesh, like "Long pork"

Veal isn't white brisket, it's calf meat, usually from a calf that is raised in solitude. It's usually a contraversial meat due to how it is produced and it is usually very expensive

For you all who don't know, Veal is the meat of an infant calf, that from birth is confined to a small cage to prevent it from ever standing, running or jumping, so as to produce a meat that is very tender.

I remember when I was a little kid we’d drive past this one cattle farm and they had all these little huts that looked like a small dog house set up everywhere and I would ask my mom what it was and she told me they were houses for baby cows. It was a veil farm 😂 And what I thought was cute and nice of the farmers was actually them immobilizing the babies until they were ready for slaughter so that their meat wouldn’t toughen up 😂

Pretty sure America's most controversial meat would be human

Edit: A few people have pointed out dog and cat meat is much more controversial than human meat

Veal is one of the few common meats I just can't get behind. Like, I'm a meat eater, I love meat, and I don't think I'd survive as a vegetarian, but I also want the animals to be treated well. Killing a baby animal for more tender meat just feels excessively cruel. Like just get a meat tenderizer or eat fish or smth.

Edit: stop trying to argue that im a hypocrite bc I still eat meat or that my idea that killing an adult is better than killing a calf or lamb. I do not care about the opinions of internet strangers. I just feel weird eating baby meat. Anyway I'm not engaging anymore, squabble as ye please.

My FAVORITE veal recipe is an Italian dish called Vitello A' Limone. Tldr; thin cut veal slices that you dust lightly in flour, pan fry with just a drop of oil, and around it in the same pan you make a sauce with lemon zest + juice and garlic. It's honestly to die for. Pair it up with some fatty potatoe prep like mashed potatoes and a nice quick pan fried veggie that's in season (like asparagus rn) and you have heaven on a plate.

Ive had it breaded similar to a chicken parm thought it was good. But to me with veal its one of those things much like venison where you can taste the diffrence from grass fed and corn fed and its pretty noticable.

I understand veal is super popular, and it's much more ethical in modern times... But as a vet student i still can't get over eating the poor baby cows. Especially because of how they're raised to keep them from moving too much to prevent excess muscle development

If anyone’s wondering why this meat is so controversial Veal is baby/very young cow

Some choose to avoid it while others find it tasty

A lot of Italian recipes call for veal which is pretty hard to find in America so I usually substitute with chicken thighs
