He doesn't realize it, he can't see it, but he and Rick Bayless are exactly the same, just with different interests. Watch their shows and you will see the same passion about what they do and the same manners of speech. And they are both extremely successful in media as well.

This is basically how my father inlaw grew up. He wasn't in a loveless house, but he did grow up with a verbally and emotionally abusive father. When he was seventeen, he finally left the house. He has told on more than one occasion that the best thing about him leaving is that his siblings didn't have to deal with what he had to.

It sounds like Skip holds animosity towards Rick because of their father. I can understand where he's coming from, it does sound like his dad wasn't...the best. But that doesn't have anything to do with Rick. I'll say this as someone who has gone through similar -- Let it go, Skip. Reconcile with your brother. You don't want to go to your grave knowing you weren't close with your brother because of things that happened as a child. Especially with one of your other siblings already gone.

As someone who has, unfortunately, physically strong-armed their father - it doesn't make you feel like a man. It makes you feel like a betrayer, even if that person was basically trying to physically attack you and it had been years in the making. You feel like a piece of yours soul has become tainted. Even if Skip thinks his father deserved it(and he probably did); I am sure it turns his stomach to relive that event.

I knew who Rick was all along. Pretty much my favorite mexico one plate at a time Chef. Along with cooking I like sports and sports talk radio. I was never a fan of Undisputed but I respect Skip and his sports takes. Never knew they were brothers

They're so similar! Gestures, the voice, maybe Skip doesn't see it but they are very much alike.

I love Rich Bayless and have never heard of his brother. What a good interview, great family story!

Never seen this part of Skip. Great interview. Skip should write a book.

This is one side of the story. The fact the others stay together suggest Skip must have been a difficult son

That's a really sad story. Does explain his actions sometimes.

My 2 sons were also treated to a conflicted relationship by way of their father. They were constantly pitted against e/ other, w/their father telling anyone who'd listen that he'd only wanted the 1st born.
Maybe Rick & Skip were never told this but it sounds like Skip was treated like the unwanted child. It wasn't anything Rick, the older son did, or probably wanted, but it was thrust on him, & probably created unwanted burdens & responsibilities too.
One other thing no one mentions, it denied them both a sibling relationship that could've been a blessing to the 3 of them as they grew up, instead of the strangers & distrustful envelopes they became.
I'm now working overtime on helping my adult children build the bridges they should've built as children. It's a hard road, but slowly they're starting to realize what they missed, & why, as they're raising their own kids.
I hope these 2 grown men get the help they need to build a new sort of relationship, if they really want to that is, instead of this broken down house that could just as easily be a good home.

This is definitely a dunce moment for me. I don't know how I didn't see it! As different as Skip sees him and his brother, they are very much the same.

Interesting. I know of both of them, but never made the 'brother' connection. Kinda funny, though... it's hard for me to believe that my brother and I "came from the same womb" as Skip says.

It seems to me most young men have contentious relationships with their fathers.

Skip has said many times he is very proud of his brother Rick. Rick’s interests in cooking etc reminds Skip of their father who he loathes even now that he is dead. I would also guess Rick probably physically resembles their father to the point where Skip sees Rick and can’t stop thinking about it. It then brings up the emotions of hate & anger. Skip has said he loves his brother and as the saying goes, "Sometimes, to love someone, you gotta be a stranger". He is his bigger brother & maybe he’s protecting his little brother in this way. 🤷‍♂️

Skip is an absolute success who Did overcome a lot.
Skip is also a narcissist.

Skip, please get over it. Just accept Rick’s success. Enjoy your success and move on with your life and career.

He acts like him and his brother came from nothing. They were able to go to Mexico on an airplane for vacation. Drunk is when your dad is peeing in the laundry room, or refrigerator. Skip is a hateful person.

Sucks to have a dad that wants you to work and make something out of yourself
