Just watched it on Prime and it was... okay. Eichner is relatable and fun and as disheartening as poor box office is, it's hardly surprising considering the state of American politics/religion and the fickle gay scene. Gay cinema has come along way since the seventies - but having said that, "The Ritz" (1976) is more entertaining and less controversial (and it's set in a bathhouse!!)
Thanks for this interview

Actually, the movie never got popular (it has only 37K votes on IMBD) and was very criticized in the gay community for the character of Luke Macfarlane (Aaron), for being unrealistic, which he is, usually gays like him behave like Drew Starkey (Eugene) in Queer does...
All that aside, I liked the movie very much and I thing that deserved better, but it was the gay version of a straight movie, that is for sure, also unapologetic, that is also true, but the relation between the two main character feels a little straight.

Even gay guys hated that movie. Don't let this guy make anymore movies. "Screaming at strangers on the street" is your wheelhouse.
