Area is the number of square units needed to cover a figure. A unit square is one unit long and one unit high. Perimeter is the distance around a figure. If the side length of a tile is 1 unit, then a tile has an area of 1 square unit and a perimeter of 4 units. Figures can have the same areas but different perimeters.
