Pros:

Massive damage

Massive splash (think ground flak)

Low energy consumption

Rather compact

Smoke bomb


Cons:

Heavy

Can only face upwards

Can only be used on ground

Cannot hit airborne robots (projectile clips harmlessly through robots)

Small firing angle > hits behind target (inaccurate) > Cannot hit enemies close to you > very short range

Expensive

Rather fragile (and that's ignoring the fact that everyone aims for the mortar first)

Snaps mech legs off like a tank running over a twig (or any kind of leg actually)


Use:

Ground flak

Chase enemies off points

Rape base invaders

Punish snipers

Murder everyone


Pairs with:

Lasers

Flaks

Ion distorters

An enemy team full of ground units

Bot that tilts forwards

Overall:

The explosion effects are pretty cool but look way to comical to be in Robocraft, like the first rework of the nanos VFX :3
Also for whatever reason, Ion DESTABILIZERS (the small ones for those who don't know) can traverse the enter map in a custom game if your robot consists of just one.... Plz try it out, even off camera lol
