I am currently in a web stack bootcamp and for the past 30 years I been a grunt in the army and a journeyman electrician. Truth, it is very frustrating, it goes so fast, we are on the capstone and I am nowhere near to programming on my own. In the other hand I have learned more about computers than in the last 35 years. I am 49.

Well I was a lawyer before the pandemic and now I'm Java dev working in a bank.
It can be done, but you need a lot of discipline. Its a lot harder than it sounds

Am making that same change Uncle Stef. Currently doing your Web Dev course. Finished the Intro and HTML5 course in just under 2 weeks. Will move along to CSS course after I explore and have more fun with HTML5. Just making different static pages of all kinds right now. Want to get a little more comfortable with the elements you taught me thus far. Hoping consistency and repetition will win the day. Also, I would like to check out some more new HTML5 elements from the online websites you recommended and try them out. Thanks Again Uncle Stef.

More excellent advice from Uncle Steph!

You missed his question. He was asking about his intellectual capacity for the work, and how realistic it might be to be hired as a developer, not just freelance, with such a background given that there will clearly be some cultural differences b/w him and some college/HR types.

I don't know if he is dealing with electronics as an elevator tech but I think same level of logic applies to both software and hardware technologies. I myself had learned to build my own guitar effects pedals just by applying the logic I have as a web dev and relating it to electronics.

I work in the Live Entertainment Industry and for the past year have been (slowly) teaching myself HTML/CSS/JS. Building my coding skills to change careers and works as either a Content Editor, Email Developer or Frontend Developer.
So far I can build basic static Landing pages with minimal functionality, but my skills are improving every day.
I wasnt able to do any of this a year ago.
Oh, and I'm 57.

Wow. I am in the trades & have been considering a career change as well. Been skeptical if I could as I am in my 40s & it sounds like my skill level is pretty close to the person the video is responding to

Video resonates a bit for me as a result
Enjoyed the video
Look forward to checking these links out now :)

How do you know when you have enough knowledge and experience to actually list yourself for freelance work? As a novice, I'm always afraid that I'll accidentally oversell my skill level and no one will ever want to work with me again. I'm not afraid of taking on simple grunt work to get some experience and some vouches but that stuff seems few and far between.

On a positive note, I've picked up a lot of digital skills as a hobby so I can do pretty much any of the design work, from the interactive UI wireframe mockup on XD all the way to constructing any of the content that you'd want: graphic, video, 3D. On the flip side, I never focus on one thing long enough to master it fully. Are generalists valued in coding? Specializing seems like the way to go in digital media.

Can you please do a video on how to actually reach for companies in order to apply for a job, that's the hardest part for me

If you can spring $40 for Stefan's Complete Web Developer Course, then finish it, Build a small project and improve it. it's possible. It isnt easy and it requires some commitment. However, HTML email, WordPress and Landing pages can get you some bread. Or buy some domains and build your own sites/tools/etc. This skill has many options.

Hey, what is your opinion on the future of programming/web development given the current state of affairs in the world? We will enter a new Cold War era and I wonder how this will affect us

I was just laid off from a help desk position. My customers were ALL elevator mechanics. After having spoken with literally HUNDREDS of mechanics, many of who knew nothing about computers, I can say, yes, you can do this, but be sure to give yourself time. Most companies won't hire developers with no experience. I've been searching while I'm training to become a developer and there's slim pickins out there for entry level devs. So train, join groups, and practice practice practice.

I'm ing on computer systems that been working on something very different for the last 14 years. Because of medical problems I worked as web designer just by myself as a freelancer.

My medical problem it's now a thing of the past and now I want to star all over again. But I am a little lost, where should I start? What do you recommend me to invest my time in? Web development probably is my first option but I never liked web design really. Any advice.

My coding skill are probably non existent anymore after all this year's, but Im willing to learn everything all over again.

Stefan... My wife and daughter are interested in programming but they know absolutely ZIP about it and are very confused as to how MATH and LOGIC tie into programming. I myself know a little but have a hard time explaining this so broadly. If you were talking to your wife who knew nothing about programming (she hardly even uses a computer, but she was super mathematical and logical, what would you say to her? Thanks, man!

I'm confused as to how your course is $40 but a bootcamp is $10000

I'm having the only problems listening to your course studio web full stack I paid for the speed your talking on 1x. Is way to fast your speaking so quickly like we have heard all these terms before smhh when I slow it down to 0.5 you sound like a robot and can barley make out your words. Please please please if possible switch the speed your talking and your moving the mouse around so quickly closing pages and open back up new ones your really are teaching like we have done all this once before totally hard for a newbie newbie
