That last tip is spot on, a clean site is a good site . Unbelievable how stressed I can get with a messy site while I’m laying

Quite correct Stu, think what KC was also saying was "pride about the job" I tell my students all the time, that every job they build they should feel a sence of achievement satisfaction that they have built something special, no matter how big or small the job!

you and your Dad make brick laying very interesting and a very good team when doing general building work.

Great tips. Proper mortar ranks up there, if it's not right you'll be struggling. I think the concept of workflow was invented for bricklaying, have a system for your work, your materials lined up, production laid out, steps all planned and make it easy on yourself.

Bricklaying is like playing snooker. Its looks easy but it is not.

Little tip for you Stu. I see a lot of brickies throwing mud back on their boards (or the floor) after laying a brick/ block. Gather the excess, place on top of the brick or spread ready for the next brick to be laid. When I see the lads throwing back on the boards (or floor) then to pick up a brick and plus the mud you've just thrown back for the next perp, it does my head in . Just imagine guys, adding up all the time during the day, weeks, months and years that would equate to extra bricks laid for less effort and so more $$$$ Hope this helps my bricklaying brothers :) Rick

My father was a Mason for 32yrs, your work reminds me of him.... very little wasted movements, quality work striving for perfection. He's build amazing Wood Burning fireplaces for people's homes and would tell me the secret is a proper "Smoke Shelf" instead of a straight flue... could you do a video primarily on the "innards".... ash pit, smoke shelf and flue transition? Thank you. R.I.P. Dad. 2009.

Been a chippy for 20 yrs and have layed a few bricks along the way.
Brickie let me down on an extension a year ago so decided to have a go myself.
Now love Brick laying more than carpentry and your vids have helped me sharpen up on a few things.
Cheers

Hand on the knee was taught to me, day one of my apprenticeship. It's a must.

Good shout on proper boots. Even the big name brands are shite these days. I have tried everything until I did some research in American boots.
The best selling work boots in American are "Wolverines." They are about £120 a pair in the UK, yes I know but bear with me. They will last 3 times as long as your £40 boots. They are also very comfortable and help your back on rough ground.

For 40 years I have been looking at plasterers with muck board stands at a height that saves their backs. Only now to I see bricklayers starting to copy them.

Good to watch u Stu. I'm nearly 60 now. Although doing inspections and instructing etc. Theres always something to learn .I've found. As u know. I done up to advanced city guilds brickwork. Only because why not.. but you and Rob Songer are a credit to the game !.. I've got a great Marshalltown 10" worn down to 7.5 " proud trowel .. keep up the good work, watch your back. Use stands or crates for spot boards .. 👍

I wanna do bricklaying cuz of great pay, being in fields of construction, the job could become a hobby, and I love the scraping sound it makes when u scrape the mortar gunk off the side of the brick when u lay the brick, then scrape that gunk off and throw it on the other brick aside 2 the other side mortar.
