I really like the Companion, but do agree with you regarding the adventure. If I run it, I’d run it as a side quest and do some tweaking to it so it fit within the current adventure.

During Deadlands (KS) funding, this Companion began as a PDF and was bumped up into a hardcover when the 250K stretchgoal was reached. Most of the contents were collected stretchgoals, right up to the Wichita Witches (that I'd just been reacquainting myself with in Shane's Cackler graphic novel) at 445K.
It was quite exciting watching the goals adding up to create this compilation throughout the month, but better still when it arrived as a useful addition to the (SWAdE) revised box set.

Some content was definitely a nod to 'loyal backer nostalgia' like The Horse Eater adventure, but I totally agree that the compiled summaries of the Reckoners adventures are great for fleshing out the lore for new (or revisiting) GMs (oops! Marshalls).

I guess, because I got the Horror at Headstone Hill campaign box at the same time, I quite liked having a simple 'monster hunt' scenario included for a utility one/two shot — once you take out the Reckoning references and the introduction of Lacy O'Malley. Agreed, it's definitely not going to open anyone's eyes wide at the innovation and nuance, but a monster and a trek into marshland can be good for introducing a new PC to replace the one who exploded in the mineshaft with the dynamite halfway through the campaign ;)
