I emailed you with a response to your need for an auto transmission rebuild kit. Still have it sitting here in my garage. Everything you are dealing with is - believe it or not - rather typical when you're bringing a DeLorean back to life. I recognize nearly everyone of these issues.

As others have stated, you can disconnect the central door locking module in a real bind, an the doors will go from auto-locks to manual lock/unlock. That'll get you out of the car as the electronic solenoids will be disabled.

The acceleration issue is definitely either the fuel or ignition system, and I would highly lean towards the fuel system. Remember, this is an all mechanical, Bosch K-Jetronic fuel system. Any one thing is out of whack, and you'll experience it. There is no "modern day EFI" on these 1970 components. Quite frankly, and it'll suck, but you need to go over practically all the components of the fuel system: fuel filter, fuel injectors, pump w/hose baffle setup and the fuel distributor are all possible sources of your issue.

Your gas gauge sticking sraight up is more than likely a failed fuel sender.

The engine cover clicks into place by means of a spring-loaded, triangular bracket that should be mounted on the back-middle of the engine compartment wall, and the lower engine cover will have a bracket that the piece clicks into.

Your speedometer not working (outside of the failed cable that was showcased in this video) will probably come down to a failed angle drive - a unit that is mounted inside the driver's side wheel hub area.

Now, all of this being said, you have a wealth of knowledge available if your Google-Fu is strong enough. When I got my DeLorean 15 years ago, there were like - 2 websites - that had information. I can advertise the typical vendors all day long, DMC-Houston and its subsidiary locations all over the US (Chicago, Orlando, Seattle, LA), DeLorean Auto Parts, and DeLorean Performance Industries - all of them can help you with available parts and helpful knowledge. I recommend you jump into the community forums (Google: DeLorean Forums) and start asking questions. Once the "20 year old rust" is broken, these cars actually are not all that bad to work on.

Then there's the other route: engine and transmission swap. Nearly every single engine-swapped DeLorean will have a manual transmission. The auto is just too fragile to handle anything over 150 to 170 WHP. Nearly all the LS swaps (yes, plural) that have been done started as auto trans DeLoreans. The two VR6 engine swaps had auto transmissions, and both have been or are currently being converted to manual transmissions. The V8 Lotus engine DeLorean has a manual as well as the 2JZ DeLorean. Bottom line here: if you swap the engine, get ready to go all in and do the transmission too. I own one of the VR6 engine DeLoreans, and trust me, the auto will be blown to pieces if you start thinking to go the engine swap route.

Hope I can get the auto trans rebuild kit to you. If I don't hear from you after this, I'll assume you are not interested.

Sorry for the book. Some of us are trying to help you, and I figured typing it all out here might get noticed before another email.

See you in the future.

Hey Hoovie. You can buy the license plate and the mirror glass from DMC Houston. Also a fix for the door locks is to disable the central locking system. I did so in my DeLorean and it fixed my sticky door locks. You just unplug it's fuse.

DeLorean is located about 20 minutes from my house. They are building cars from spare parts and I think are still supplying parts. Back when I was a kid a friend was closing his shop. We helped him move and he had a ton of DeLorean parts. His brother worked for DeLorean and had gotten a lot of parts when they went under. He passed away a few years ago not sure what happened to them.

I think Hoovie will fix this back close to standard if he can. Keep it original. It's worth more and is more authentic that way.

But the Tesla electric drivetrain swap sounds very cool.

Ug, don’t repair that pos engine/transmission! Get a EV West kit and do a Tesla swap. Way faster and more fitting of a time travel machine.

Always wanted a DMC, I was friends with “Crazy Eddies” Electronics store owner’s nephew in Brooklyn, NY in the 1980s, and his uncle had one, fell in love with it that day.

This is my dream car and unlike most people that think they want one I actually have a history with them. My grandpa bought one brand new when I was 3. I thought it was the coolest car ever. When he passed away I was still too young to make a play for it and it was sold. Every time I’ve tried to buy one other things have taken priority. I still maintain that one day I will own one. Please love and take care of her sir.

Its funny because Tyler's fashion sense is stuck in the same era that Back to the Future came out

This is the greatest thing you have ever done! It just cannot be topped!

I can't ever separate seeing one of these things from thinking... Back to The Future! It doesn't matter how much you have to spend to bring it back to the present. You have my full permission to spend any amount required. (Don't forget to glue a Magimix to its rump.)

Just fix it up enough to get it up to 88 MPH and go back to the future to when it was new...oh wait, it still prolly wont work then either...sighs~

I'm sure you've heard of them but DMC still exists in Texas and they have tons of NOS parts as well as a total refresh program. Also I believe quite a few parts were shared with Volvo, Renault and Peugeot, mostly drivetrain stuff. Also weirdly enough the 90's Eagle Premiere and Dodge Monaco used the same PRV engine though with a 3.0 displacement and 160ish HP. Hope this helps with your parts search

Only car that I approve for LS Swap. Just blow the engine real quick and Wizard and 5k $$$ will make that baby fly to the future.

You summed up your video quite nicely @ 4:15: "I'm lucky that all the lights seem to work." Perhaps the only part of this car that won't demand a huge amount of time and money.
