My mom had her cornea destroyed by flesh eating bacteria. As a result she suffered blindness in that eye. She could see light if you were to shine a flash light directly into her eye but that was it. They sutured a disk made of collagen to her eye and placed stem cells under the disk. They put her eye lid to sleep with Botox so her eye would remain closed. About 3 months later they removed the disk and her vision was restored. This was 10-15 years ago.

It sounds to me like they're just using materials from your body that can serve a function and won't be rejected by your immune system. If I understood it correctly it's building a structure to hold a new lens. Something like a new lens after cataract surgery. Keratosis is where the front of the eye becomes thinner around the cornea, until the pupil becomes pointed. That effects the vision very badly.

Keep in mind there are different types of blindness people and this won’t be effective for everybody. If there is optic nerve damage like I have, this doesn’t work for me. Glad science and the global community on the Internet in general is having more discussions about blindness though.
