I started my implant journey last fall (Nov 2023) just had restoration done (July 2024)
6000.00 total cost. WITH insurance. Crown was not insurance, 2300.00

I was given the option of a bridge, but didn't want my other two molars shaved down and crowned unless I needed to. That was going to cost 3500.00 WITHOUT the extraction cost.

My extraction had to be done by an oral surgeon as it was a failed RCT and my root tip was pretty much almost touching my main facial nerve.
That surgery for extraction and bone graft was 2000.00

so either way, it was going to be expensive but I went with the implant and broke costs up.

As far as restoration, my oral surgeon sent an EXPLICITLY detailed letter telling my dentist what materials to use for my abutment and to do screw retained, and I didn't know my dentist DID NOT read or heed that, not sure which and he cemented it down. I have had issues now with irritation and am now facing possibly having to have it removed and redone.
SO my advice is always make sure they are doing what they are supposed to. As a patient, I shouldn't have to, but apparently you do.

Hope this all helps someone.

Getting an implant Monday.. which kills me I’ve spent about 4000 trying to save the tooth and now I’m spending another 6000 just on one implant. It’s criminal how expensive things are here in the US. I’ve spent close to 30k saving my teeth 😢

Removable bridge is the cheapest and the most hygienic option.
I have one and love it.
You may be wondering why I say it's the most hygienic solution. Because you can easily remove it and clean it. The permanent bridge and the implants have areas where bacteria can build up and cleaning those areas is very difficult because you can't remove an implant or permanent bridge.
Not in my wildest dreams would I consider grinding down 2 good teeth in order to bond a bridge in place.

Implants are invasive and he didn’t mention complications such as infection, osteo-disintegration, bone space issues, sinus issues, rejection by body, etc. Speaking from experience, implant is a last resort. Failure rate is high especially upper teeth.

Dental care is absurdly expensive here in the U.S easily have $30k of lifetime dental work I am going to Mexico to get my veneers at the top Veneer Dentist in Guadalajara 10 teeth Zirconium veneers for $4k compare that to my quoted $22K here in Salt Lake think I will rather have a nice vacation in mexico than to pay $22K!

I had a bridge done to save money. Now I’m getting an implant after 4 years. Bridge failed. Wish I would’ve never gotten the bridge.

I don’t see what the advantages of bridge since your going to chisel down the healthy adjacent teeth which then can be in danger of future problems😮

Two things you neglected to mention: 1. There is no guarantee that an implant will work & there is no refund if implants have to be removed - which means more surgery & more risk. 2. Dental implants have the HIGHEST failure rate of any medical procedure. And the profit is the major reason so many dentists do the hard sell on implants.

Can't they make an Invisalign-type device where a tooth placeholder is included in the tray rather than affecting adjacent teeth to make a bridge? It wouldn't even need to cover the entire arch.

Number one, implants are unattainable unless you are rich.
I went to a dentist 8 months ago with a premolar that kept losing its filling.after a full checkup I was told that my teeth were worn down, and that was why all my teeth were sensitive, and I would keep losing that filling because my bite was messed up.
Recommendation was to do two bridges for my two missing teeth, and crowns for the rest.
Once the bridges were done, I have had extreme sensitivity in all the anchor teeth that were grinded down to support the bridges.
For 4 months I was told it would get better.it has not, and here I am 8 months later, living on painkillers just to be able to function.
The original problem with the premolar was just as bad, first they crowned it, which made it worse.then they root canaled it, which failed due to an infection they did not detect until performing the root canal.ended up pulling the tooth anyways.
Will be getting dentures soon.
Word to the wise, do not get bridges anchored to live teeth.
Teeth should be root canaled before you grind them down into little posts to support a bridge.
Why dentists do not tell you this is beyond me.
Will never trust a dentist again.
Money whores.

Thank you, Dr. Nate, this was an informative video! What's the best way to determine if our insurance covers a bridge or implant procedure? Is that something we should ask our insurance provider directly or is that something our dentist would need to request on our behalf?
