Things Only Adults Notice About Saved By The Bell

‘80s and ‘90s kids who grew up with Saved by the Bell might be tempted to go back and watch the high school show today, but they'll have to keep in mind that they’ll be watching it with different eyes. Returning viewers might discover things that they didn’t even think about when they were younger, but that are extremely obvious now. For example, backstories weren’t always consistent, the messages were often goofy and heavy-handed, and a lot of the realism wasn’t all that real after all.

Let’s take a look at some things only adults notice when they watch Saved by the Bell.

I think th writer of this essay missed the whole point of Zack Morris's character in Saved by the Bell. Even as a kid in the 90s it was so obvious Zack existed to be an example of what NOT to do and who NOT to be. Most episodes followed a basic formula. Zack has a dilemma, say trying to pass a test. Zack comes up with scheme to overcome said dilemma, finding a way to cheat on the test. Zack faces consequences, Zack is caught has to actually study next time. Now yes in the real world the consequence part would be more severe, i agree but the point is still driven home everytime. Don't be like Zack!! It was an attempt to couch after school special content in a form that kids would actually consume on their own.

So in this way I guess Zack WAS a villain but the show's creators were smarter than that. If Zack was positioned as a villain from the outset kids won't relate to him in the right way. The key if for kids to see themselves as possibly being Zack and then realize what a mistake it would be to follow his example. If you make Zack a villain kids will write his actions off from the outset as actions of a bad guy and not see themselves as that character. In this way it's smart to make him a protagonist.

There's nothing creepy about Mr. Belding. Dude provided that optimistic mentor role that so many shows now lack

Probably my absolute favorite show when I was growing up. I still love it, the mid to late 80's was a great time to be born and the 90's was a even better time to grow up.
