Summertime sparring Spadone vs. Dual Swords - just a fun exercise, since I was practicing Marozzo's techniques for two swords and Stephan just got his new Spadone (Italian version of the Montante / Greatsword /Schlachtschwert). Dual wielding is quite fun actually though really demanding.

The swords we are using:
Spadone:
Custom "Spada a Due Mani" from Regenyei Armory

Sideswords:
Custom Sidesword from Regenyei Armory
Standart Sidesword 1 from Kvetun

Music: The Witcher 3 OST

Just to be clear: This is very relaxed sparring for both of us!

I would like to thank Jacopo Penso for his workshop on Marozzo's two swords at the English Sidesword Open 2020 as it was obviously inspiring. :) If you have got feedback for me our experiences, let me know in the comments!

Interesting! I had tried learning some of Marozzo's two swords some years ago and man is it hard! To my eye, you are relying well on the basic idea that Marozzo teaches for this weapon: engage/lift the opponent's blow/weapon with one sword (or both) and cut under with the second sword (or disengage and cut, binding the opponent with the first sword). Seems simple enough, but those long blades are a real challenge to coordinate. There is a reason if two swords was a relatively uncommon combination, I think. Nicely done :)!

😯 very cool. You both look very relaxed. So relaxed the hits don't look like they would "hurt".
I recently started studying italian saber and and a big thing I saw there was the pushing of a technique where you slash and your sword "bounces" as you make the hit. This is so that you guarantee a cutting motion so that if you were in a "real fight" you would actually cut your opponent.
Anyways cheers on posting, really good choice on setting and thumbnail. Spadone had great control and duel swords was able to keep up 👍

Is Marozzo two swords so different from Manciolino two swords? In Manciolino it stresses keeping the swords very far from each other but it seems like having them together helped against the Spadone who has so much more leverage than the one hand could exert.

Good work, by the way.

(Stephan here:) Oohhh, I miss sparring... How careful I use the spadone to not scratch it 🤣. The problems using a new sword for sparring

Cool video, I enjoyed it.
In time I am sure you can get more used to the 2 weapons, although if one is a bit shorter than the other, I find it more comfortable.
Unfortunately one can never really go "all in" with such two handed weapon, as it will be devastating for his partner. Still, in time, you will most probably find a "sweet spot" where you can both use the the heavy weapon's reach and force and stay adequately safe.

Very interesting mixed weapons. How long is the spadone? Doesn't seem much bigger than a regular longsword feder, but video can be deceiving like that. :P

What helmet are you wearing? Does it more effectively prevent blood waffles than a fencing mask?

Relaxing sparring, but spadone is ignoring range game xD.

Hi,
Ist das Spadone der neue Trainer von Regenyei?
Könnt ihr ein paar mehr Infos dazu geben bitte? :)

Unfortunately, those Feder "Spadone" are too short compared to real reproductions, probably due to mass excess in sparring contests (and the fact that due to the mass balance and structure you can't really make a 160-180cm sword without make that geometrically similar and so, not adapt to sparring).
The biggest I have ever seen was about 25-30cm shorter than a real Spadone or Montante.
