Dodgers re-invite Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence following backlash

The Los Angeles Dodgers are walking back the team's stance. Days after the team made headlines for withdrawing an invitation to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the Dodgers are apologizing to the group.

Once upon a time we could escape for a while. From all the pressure we deal with daily. Work issues. Family struggles. The controversies in the news cycles. And politics. Our refuge was sports. We could grab a cold drink, some tasty snacks, turn on the game, and for a few hours just escape. Not anymore. Today, the escape portal of sports has turned into the express lane that leads us right back to the stressors of our daily lives. The unifying power of sports has been transformed into arguments about work place “equity, ” highlights of the sad fall of sports stars, coverage and discussion of the latest horrors and “outrage, ” and the often divisive ugliness of politics.
Look, I get it. We are all passionate about what we believe. We should be. Our jobs, our families, the stories that cause us concern, and politics are the real world. Like it or not. Those are the things we we worry about, mull over constantly, and makes us struggle to search for justice, and fight for what we believe in.
But I truly believe that those who bring sports to us have a mission, and that mission is NOT the mission of the pundits, the protesters, or the politicians, it’s the mission of the presenter. They are host and guides of the magic carpet ride though the freeing world of a contest on the basketball court, or football field, or baseball diamond. A world where the only thing that matters is a buzzer beating three pointer, a last second touchdown, a bottom of the ninth grand slam, and the crowd going wild.
Once upon a time we could escape for awhile. Please…bring that back.
