As an auto mechanic the day they got rid of locking hubs is the day they got rid of a reliable 4x4.

Some engineers need to be publicly flogged

Can't beat a solid axle and freewheeling hubs, tough, simple.
Anyone remember when trucks used to be trucks?

Axle nut dust cap has left the scene ✌🏽

Interesting. I’ll stick with my super duty with a solid axle, manual locking hubs and a floor shifter for the t-case.

My hat off to you, you’re so young but you know a lot about different vehicles! Thanks…Jim
PS: Keep up the good work!!!

When you install that part make sure you fit it to the CV axle and install it into the hub mated together. The plastic part can break inside when tightening the axle nut.

Rebuilt a fan hub assembly on a cat engine today and it was vacuum actuated in the same way as this, pretty cool

I feel a grinding vibration as I'm going uphill on regular streets. Nothing extremely steep. I normally feel it within the first 20min and once she heats up, it goes away.

The coolest thing I've ever seen on a Ford is manual Hubs!!!! But this is cool too

My front left hub is grinding but hasn't had any major issues yet besides that. Goes away in 4wd

If you replace the solenoid on the firewall in early models it resolves most of these issues. Water intrusion is usually the problem for this system. The system fills with water and destroys the actuator assembly. The new design has a water shield overtop the solenoid vent.

Remember when things we're simple and you just lock the hubs pulled the stick and never had any issues now it's turn the knob and that sends signal to the module and the module checks with the PCM to make sure everything's okay then it turns the light on on the dash and actuates the vacuum solenoids.... over engineered junk

Except when it's not. One time I had good vacuum at both hubs and there seemed to be a 4x4 engagement at heavy engine load periods. Turned out the one way valve by the solenoid was leaking not allowing enough vacuum to build in loaded applications.

Guys with manual locking hubs😎😎 but also could be🥶during hunting season lol

This is why i like my 250 better, the hubs have auto like this AND manual where you get out lock them yourself. Very handy for snow storms so you know 4 wheelie blaster is on.

They’re called IWE’s integrated wheel ends and they’re not always the problem. If those hoses get pulled off they can suck up water and dirt and cause one way check valves to fail. The vacuum solenoids Have problems too.
