Is Dust: An Elysian Tail Worth It?

There is a very popular scene in the gaming industry called Indie where people and small companies work on projects that are usually smaller in scope but high in personality. In 2012 Dust was made for the Xbox Live and boy was it a gorgeous game. I decided to have a look at this in order to see if it's worth it!

Excellent video man, I liked it so much I watched twice... The combat is a little dull in places until you come to bosses and then it really jumps up so I like that approach, you feel like a badass until your not, it's an interesting balance... Equally backtracking is great in this game, you go back to old areas with new eyes because you have new skills, your not just going in different directions... I would say this is on of the best metroidvania games available and to have been created by one man is just stunning.. As I am currently tackling salt and sanctuary at the moment I can appreciate a good metroidvania game at the best of times... Brilliant work as always sir and I am very happy to see this one

The moment I knew I was going to love this game. I got a note that said something like "take a leap of faith from the hand." Then I found a giant statue with a two hands. Jumped off one. Nothing. Jumped off the other. Secret platform flies me away to a secret area. Amazing. I ended up beat the game with whatever the final percentage was (114%?).

I agree with the combat being a bit messy. I admit I only played on the default difficulty, but Fidget is just broken. I would just fly back and worth using fidget until everything was dead. The multipliers the items give her are absurd. Also, the map system does need some work for sure. It works, but that's it.

If you haven't played Guacamelee I highly recommend it.

I've had this game sitting in my Steam library for god knows how long. Should probably play it, as I do love a good Metroidvania game. Have you played Ori and the Blind Forest or Axiom Verge? They're worth your time if you like these kinds of games (especially Ori, that game is beautiful!).

Keep up the great work my friend!

It's possible to go through the whole game with little to no backtracking - it's really only there if you want it, or to give you something more interesting to do in case you need to do a little grinding.

I've never actually heard of this game before but it does seem quite interesting. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of backtracking but I guess it all comea down to the individual game.

I've been very curious about this game since it got released, but I heard about the backtracking and I don't like to do that..
