I have been using linux deepin 2014.1 for about two months now, no glitches, no bugs, every piece of hardware worked right after the installation. Considering that i didn't use ubuntu for a long time and i've been spending time on windows 8.1 lately, i liked the fact that for simple use (web browsing, music, movies, little wine gaming) i didn't need the terminal at all. Slow or failing download problems from Deepin Store are because the default download server is in china, but when you select a closer one store runs perfectly. I would recomend this OS for simple users who want to try out a linux distro.

I know exactly where you're coming from Tos, I really wanted to like this distro as well, installed onto real hardware runs great, looks great, but trying to update the system was painfull and unsuccesfull, after 3 fresh installs I gave up.

I'm Maggie from Deepin Team. Thanks your comments and I have read all of them. I see most of you installed Deepin on VM. We have an announcement that we do not recommend to install Deepin on VM in our official blog, but not remind in the download page, which caused bad experience to you. That's our mistake, now we have add the tips during installing of Deepin2014.2.

Deepin (not Deepin Linix) 2014.1 was just released.

A few notes about my personal experience with Deepin (a few days ago to be exact) ... A) I agree for the GUI Installer (vs say the arch CLI type installer, fan) fan, the Installer is one of the nicest looking that I have seen.  B) the GUI is unique and after I played with it for a bit (It sounds like my PC has lower specs ... 4GB of ram, dualcore...it seemed sluggish but not too bad when installed on hdd) C) The default "repo mirror" is set to China and, was almost dialup internet speed for me .. .in the software center (which I used to download Synaptic), I changed it in preferences somewhere ... I am not sure exactly though i think may have a video on that or a clip on one of his videos too on changing that ... after I changed that to the fastest mirror which I think it said was in Virgina, USA, it was like my typical HighSpeed connection speed.... THEN D) THE BIGGEST Issue I had of all was the updates kept breaking everything ... I only had issue with one other distro .
(Makulu, kept screwing up permissions after the first "post install" update.... it refused to recognize the root pw .. I even tried a few installs in case it was something dumb i was doing ... .Makulu kept screwing up after the first update)

I will keep an eye on this distro .. it has potential if you ask me ... if they fix those update bugs, and make it a bit "snappier", I could see myself recommending it in the future, and I will give this one (if i find the hdd space and time) another chance in case I goofed something up on the install ... though personally i still think this distro is a bit too buggy, for my tastes.  I have seen errors in this OS I have not really seen in any other distro (not just Ubuntu based distros either)

Runs like a cheetah on my D630.
Fortunately I only ran into 3 bugs. But they're still a ass pain.

1st bug: One of the docks launchers (whatever the grey circle of a blue d was meant to be, sorry but the "getting started" guide didn't tell me jack about it) doesn't work.

2nd bug: Software center/updater is unable to connect (Times out each time, I know it's not my Internet because chrome loads the web just fine it's just the software center/updater that won't connect).

3rd bug: Like Fedora it rejects adjustments via the brightness keys (immediately jacks it back up to full) but adjustment via the menu works just fine.

If these bugs were fixed I'd roll with it.
I've been struggling to find a distro that works this smoothly and fits my needs and minus the bugs it seems to fit pretty damn well.

PS: I did try elementary OS 2, but it ran like complete trash. And every other distro (save for Slacko Puppy, and Fedora which ran like crap and didn't work with WiFi) outright crashed and couldn't install or load the Live session. (Linux Mint Debian, 17 XFCE, Zorin OS 9 Lite, Slitaz, I tried every recommended distro out there to no avail. lol)

inb4: Just use Windows.
A: Windows runs like crap on it.
B: The Intel GMA driver and Windows (XP  through -7 and 8.1) don't get along at all, yet linux can feed it a heavy load and it takes it without error.

Tos I'd just like to say here that I tried this on a USB and it ran ok but sluggish as you say..I did not try it in a VM as they catagorically say DO NOT USE THIS IN A VM..When fully installed it ran fast on a full PC install. There are other problems with it though..No idication on the dock where minimised windows have gone and 2 part apps like radiotray wont work as there is nowhere the app can sit..ie application tray
