My ML interpretation of this: the "low loss region" of the world is where we can find the greatest combination of contentment, salary, creativity, autonomy etc. Imagine yourself as an optimiser always moving towards that low loss region little by little with each step, rather than assuming you have an analytic solution that will place you there, because that analytic solution does not exist

My philosphy is to always be doing something which is at the edge of your comfort zone.
If you really hate something, it will start feeling more and more out of your comfort zone,
but if you are constantly able to learn new stuff in a particular direction and not feel overwhelmed too often, you have essentially built a pretty chill life for yourself.

You video really resonated with me and was a much needed reminder to focus on my own journey without getting bogged down in comparisons to others.

I understand your point. A good example of this is when your machine learning videos become so compelling that random viewers cannot ignore them when they stumble upon them on YouTube.😂Making videos is not a skill that you are necessarily born with, but through time and passion, it can be developed into a valuable skill that can be exchanged for other valuable assets.

OMGG this is my current read... Love the whole idea of choosing the niche and becoming the best. Awesome that you're talking about this.

So awesome to hear that you've also taken a lot from this book. I read it (audible) like a year ago and it's definitely impacted how I approach my professional life. Building rare and valuable skills allows you to trade that skill for those positive qualities of a job that transcend industry (autonomy, creativity, time off, etc.).
Watching your older videos to now, it's evident that you're building rare and valuable skills in terms of explaining ML very detailed while also approachable. Def helped me learn some architectures.
Great stuff!

Great video - I think it's solid advice.
Liked the format too - quick 5min video.

You are the best, I always think that what I am very far behind from others and these words coming from you makes me believe that I can be as good as I want to be. I always thought you were naturally good and what you do from the beginning, but the pathway that you showed about choosing the "passion" is really insightful. Thanks

Yeah, I can really relate to your words. Seems like doing something that seems interesting and then reflecting on what really you find interesting in the proccess is the only way to find your passion

Thanks for the real and relatable talk.
Instead of thinking about passion, best thing to do is try different things in your life as early as possible. That gives flavor of all the different careers are out there. From there we can narrow our path based on our requirements in life such as money, wealth, research, traveling or leading people etc etc

Great points also appreciate how you deconstruct lots of beliefs when it comes to passion etc..

I'm a Data scientist. I'm confused right now about what I should do next . The AI & Data field is so vast and rapidly changing that I feel overwhelmed.

Fresh take on the topic. I like the idea of building up to passion in the end. Also had the same dilemma all through college.

I like a quote that goes sth like, “We tend to think that motivation makes us do things, but some days we actually have to push ourselves to do the thing and then motivation arises”

I'm someone with lost of semi-obsessive passions in a very broad range, which i believe is called being a multipotentialite. And i have a really difficult time doing thing that I'm not passionate about (conversely everything i do care for goes quite easily, no matter the complexity). Anyone with similar drives?

you should get into Objective Personality dude. Not for the system itself, but you encounter people to learn from like Cal Newport within the system

Not to be a downer, but they can *always* ignore you.

The idea of having a destined path is idiotic. The way you do one thing is the way you do everything. Therefore, if you can become extremely good at A, you most definitely can become extremely good at B. My philosophy is to pick the career that returns the most profit if you were extremely good at it and you beat all the competition, but this advice is only applicable to the top echelon of man. Most people will live normal lives.
