Ro Khanna: Avoiding Default Was Necessary, But Debt Deal Was Passed at Expense of “Most Vulnerable”

After a contentious battle with the Republican House majority, President Biden and Congress have agreed on a bipartisan deal suspending the debt ceiling until January 1, 2025. Among other concessions to Republicans, the deal caps domestic spending below the current rate of inflation, allows for larger increases to the military budget, implements new work requirements for social programs and fast-tracks the approval and construction of the controversial 300-plus-mile-long fracked gas Mountain Valley Pipeline through West Virginia and Virginia. Our guest, California Congressmember Ro Khanna, is among a number of progressive Democrats who voted against the legislation. He calls it a “punch in the gut to climate activists” that “came on the backs of the poor, of students, of the most vulnerable, of women.”

The Establishment and the Oligarchy didn't want to get rid of the Debt Limit because of what just happened.

One of the ways to make Rich people Richer and Poor People Poorer;

CREATE A CRISIS!

There is always an excuse about why something "has to be done" at the expense of helping average citizens. Why can't companies be negatively impacted as something "that has to be done" in situations like this?

The fleecing of America continues unabated. Politician, just another dirty word.

Increasing the military budget w/o quality control of current spending is a fools errand. Angry that these so called leaders won’t address out of control spending that is wasteful and unnecessary.

So how was borrowing money to fund the military budget a necessity?

Congress pats each other on back for blowing the budget, again, "See, we actually can achieve something!".

Dear American Express,

Please increase the credit limit on my maxed out credit line. Failure on your part to do this will result in failure on my part to make my minimum payments.

Thanks
Sam

The Debt Limit did not have to be negotiated. The 14th Amendment could have increased the ceiling automatically. Budgets are normally negotiated during the Budget Appropriation Committee meetings.

"Chip away" at the attitude of the young people (and some of us older folks too) is an UNDERSTATEMENT. So angering, sad, scary~😠

Cut military spending by 60% and you will be able to look after all your people

No deals on something that should not be part of it anyway!~ Special Interest should not have a say!~ Past bills have nothing to do with the deals of today.. Military spending is insane~

Ro Khana voted for Republicans’ non-binding “antisocialism” bill — but, he’s glad that it passed even though it’s on the backs of the poor, and, even though he only voted against the debt deal — because he knew it was going to pass anyway.

Talk about contorted doublespeak.
NOT impressed.

When the imperfect is clearly the enemy of the good — not the perfect. Enough of the canards,

The Fiat money supply is something that has no way to fail. No matter what happens they can hit print and boom crisis averted. What they don't tell you is that every time they hit the print button it is not for you. It's for them to keep status quo

Ya ... Instead of health care and education they increased military spending!

We've been setting up this joke for long enough that I'm a little curious at what the punchline looks like.

For the record, I am a Dem and furious. This “debate” should not have occurred without a very serious fight in the court on the use of the 14th amendment.

We need a social program that gets rid of all social programs.
