The BBC said it has not yet agreed a contract renewal with Gary Lineker, amid speculation over his future at Match Of The Day.

The corporation denied an announcement was pending regarding its highest-paid star, who it said is under contract until the end of the football season.

MailOnline reported that it had seen an email purportedly from BBC bosses preparing to announce the 63-year-old’s departure from the broadcaster after 25 years.

Isabel Oakeshott says: "I'm surprised he's lasted this long."

Leaving aside the obvious question of whether or not he deserves that sort of money - why would anyone NEED £67, 000 + per month? You can buy a brand new car for comfortably under £20, 000 and a slap up meal for two in a top steak house for well under a couple of hundred quid. That sort of salary is obscene and completely unnecessary.

Quite frankly, who cares about Mr Lineker. Football fans will still watch MOTD, even if it was presented by Dusty Mop. In fact, Dusty Mop would probably attract more viewers than Mr Lineker and cost the BBC far less.
