2:52 he over torques the first bolt of the oil pan! He squeezed it all out too! Finger tighten all bolts EVENLY for one hour. Torques after 1 hour. Let cure for 24 hours.

The old 80s permatex videos remind you to use the correct amount of sealer for the bead, in this instance, 90% of the bead will end up stuck in the oil pickup LOOOOL

How do you make the product and not know how to use your own product?

Reminds me of a short lived engine I disassembled.. Absolutely riddled with RTV squeeze out. It was like silicon spaghetti and it was everywhere.. Oil galleries, water passageways. Big daggy bits dangling down the intake runners.. Hard to know if the oil starvation was from the blocked pickup or just most of the engine oil being in the rocker cover because it couldn't drain fast enough lol.

I don't think that he used enough sealant on that water pump ;) I hope this part is not being put into service like that, but at least it's not an oil pump!

Good demonstration of the volume of sealant that the aerosol can is capable of putting out when you really put the hammer down though!

wow, at 2:38 especially, in my earliest days I didn't use so much and apply so badly.

they should show how to apply it correctly.. not big thick beads.... it just gets into the oil pan, , oil pick up etc.

@1:04 Thats how you can clog you heater core and radiator !! probably the guy has no clue whats hes doing ... thats way waaay too much silicone, machined aluminum surfaces requires a bead of 2mm in diameter and no more...

Dude, you're not caulking your tub. Why the hell are you using so much??

I made the mistake of using anaerobic gasket maker in conjuction with a conventional gasket. I just assumed it glued everything together, but it only bonds to metal against metal etc.. I was wondering why coolant was leaking from my thermostat housing, but now I know..

with the anaerobic gasket maker it says you need to use surface prep activator that is on package .should you use the activator or is it needed

Just used zrtv ultra black exactly as it says on the package instead of the ton used in the video and let it sit for about 27 hrs on a timing chain cover and water pump.

The water pump leak at one spot. Wasted a day for one spot and now how to take it apart.

For years I normally put it on one side of a normal gasket. Tomorrow I will replace with a normal gasket and no rtv.

I like the silicone combination gaskets so I guess I’ll move into 2022 but I live in the country so I have to fix my truck to get there or walk… it’s only 7 miles to the store and when I was 12 that was a normal walk

Those beads are like 10 times more than is needed. The silicone will break off inside the crankcase and block the oil pump pickup.

Can I use a sealant on a leaky plumbing flange for water supply? If so which would be good choice??
