Starship for sure knows what they're doing. Aside from the song and MV being fantastic, they've also... I would dare to say.. won the august bloodbath. They came back in the middle of a BLACKPINK and TWICE week and are somehow #1 on all the charts rn. I hope starship continues to foster this hype and popularity because korea LOVES these girls and they're also really popular overseas. So much potential for these girls future and I'm so excited to witness it

The real winner this August in the girl group battle was the fans tbh. The past couple years a lot of girl groups have gotten stuck in the girl crush style. But last month we got very different types of songs from IVE, Twice, Blackpink, and NewJeans and they’ve all made it onto my playlists because it’s all been great. It’s a good time to be a general gg fan in kpop.

This wasn’t what I expected from IVE, but they managed to still exceed my expectations. This was a delight, and it’s such an ear worm too. I just can’t get it out of my head.

Honestly IVE is probably my favourite 4th gen group right now. Eleven, Love Dive, After Like and all their b-sides just tick everything I like in a song😭😭

It's incredible how they manage to give them such original songs, hit after hit, while also staying true to their concept. I read somewhere that Starship has been planning this one too since Eleven came out and that it is all connected (through the narcissism concept)

correct me if i’m wrong but i think the pink staircase is remoniscent of the iconic pink staircase and dress worn my marilyn monroe in “diamonds are a girls best friend” and later madonna’s material girl mvs

The camerawork in the fireworks scene is absolutely masterful, the way it moves to help you feel the weight of the explosions is really clever

Musical breakdown of why it sounds awesome: I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor, not Donna Summers) + 90s house pianos + putting the post-chorus (I Will Survive part) up a 4th (Dm to Am). Memorable samples, retro-feeling elements (the house pianos), and a key change that doesn't quite feel like a key change, all work together to make what COULD have been a pretty bland song into something fun and interesting. Also Gaeul's styling reminds me a lot of Peekaboo and it's great. (Personally though I think Satisfaction hits much harder, it's a b-side that could've easily been the title track.)

The only big flaw of this song is that they don't utilize IVE's best vocalist, which is Liz.

I think the song would sound way better if they gave her at least one chrous, since it's too repetitive. If they always gave more lines to one of the top 4th gen vocalist = Liz, IVE won't get criticized by their vocal ability anymore.

I'm surprised a lot of people haven't noticed the colors the girls use in their induvial sets, match the TV color test screen in the intro shot.

This single's b-side "my satisfaction" has a VERY particular and different sound, probably IVE's best b-side (coming from a casual listener!). You should check it out :)
