So Much Better (lyrics)

Long before I had you in my dreams
You came and captured my imagination
Though some things are never what they seem
I never had to worry cos I know you are

Better than the Venus De Milo in a g-string
Better than the promise of a good one night fling
Better than a big book of Bettie Page pictures
Even if it came with a year subscription
Better than a ticket to a Holyfield ringside
Better than the daughter of a sultan for a bride
Better than the cherry on a whip cream sundae
Better than a week that’ll never have a Monday

Share your love with me tonight (yeah)
I wanna feel that love

Long before I looked into your eyes
I saw a million stars start flashing
Even though sometimes I wondered why
I never had to worry what you are, oooh

You’re better than a bag full of Benjamin Franklins
Better than the keys to a brand new Lincoln
Better than the winnings of a New York Lotto
Even if it came with a new house and an auto
And you’re better than a year on a paid vacation
Better than a brand new year celebration
Better than a day full of Seinfeld humor
And you’re better than hearing a celebrity rumor

Share your love with me tonight (yeah)
I wanna feel that love

Share your love with me tonight

Finally hearing this song at the end of the Reply All episode was better than a cherry on a whipped cream sundae.

I bought your album in 1999 after hearing this song on the radio (I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this song). The CD made it onto my iPod which found its way onto my iPhone. Five minutes into the new Reply All podcast, they mentioned lyrics about a “sultan for a bride” and that the chorus sounds like U2...and I knew it was this song. I proceeded to yell at this podcast for the next half hour while every single person could not figure it out. I was SO relieved when PJ found you.

This song has been with me for over twenty years and is a part of defining the last year of high school and the beginning of my decision to play/record music. I am blown away to find out you recorded this in your room and played every instrument on it. You’re such a talent! I’m happy and surprised that it made a return twenty years later on Reply All. Thank you to Tyler’s incredible memory!

Matt Lieber is the feeling when you’re listening to this song for the very first time.

So how did you get famous?

Well this guy remembered a song I made so well that they re-recorded it and made a podcast about it

Can honestly say that I have never quite experienced anything like the absolute jaw-dropping excitement and glee while listening to a podcast than during the final moments of the episode of Reply All this is featured in. Absolutely incredible story-telling and what an incredible journey this song has been on! YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE YOUR ART WILL END UP! <3 Also, SOLID late 90's jam!!

This was was definitely played on 104.1 The Point in Minneapolis. I remember it because I asked my mom what a G-string was. Simpler times...

There is no doubt in my mind that if the record label actually got behind this song, instead of expecting Evan to do most of the work, it would’ve been a hit.

I just want that whole episode to be a movie and this song playing in the end.

This totally sounds like it should be playing at beginning of a 90s romance-comedy. Great episode!

This was the single best episode of a podcast I have ever heard. Enormously satisfying and this tune is a bop. I hope it brings you lots of attention and success. You seem like an absolute gem!

I'm amazed how accurate the guy from the Reply All episode remembered this, it's quite catchy! I wonder how many other songs like this have just disappeared. Thank you for uploading this Evan!

You just know this song will now end up on the soundtrack of the next "teen drama set in the mid-'90s" put out by Netflix.

The moment at be end of the episode when PJ says, “and the reason he remembers the song is because he wrote the song...” is going to stick with me for a long time. I was so happy I literally screamed, NO WAY!!!”

I can't believe this song wasn't a hit. It encompasses the whole sound of the late 90s. Love it! Thanks for uploading :)

You possibly have the most epic story in pop music history with this song man! And it really is a total earworm!

Okay, but here's the thing. As I listened to this episode of the podcast I couldn't tell if I recognized the song for real from when I used to listen to radio all the time back in the late 90s. Or if I was making it up. But then they played the real deal at the end of the podcast AND I SWEAR I REMEMBERED THIS SONG.

I sing the chorus to make sure I’ve washed my hands for 20 seconds!

Girlfriend: We’ve been through this...
Me: Yeah, but that was last week

Tyler: I haven’t heard it for 20 years... but the symbols need to be a little more shimmery... bass needs to be sparser
