Thank you for sharing your experience because it's golden, sir. I started selling beats online like two years ago. last summer, a guy introducing himself as an artist from a well known label came over, saying he was building an album and would pay me however I'd call. As a newbie to this music business (I still am now though) I suddenly wondered, asked him to make sure that my name would be put on the credit list. He said no because he was gonna change some stuff and record it again, and the one who would bring MY beat to his "artists" and "mix engineers" would be him, so i couldn't own the copyright. I said "but I made the chord progressions, drums and basslines, and most importantly, the whole concept of this beat came from me." he told me the business didn't work that way and kept trying to buy me. I almost fell for it because of the amount of money and I needed to pay my bills but guess what, I didn't sell my beat to him. My choice was right and if I had sold my soul to him I couldn't just keep up doing what I love. The thing is, it took me a whole day deciding. It can be actually tempting for young musicians to accept such shady contracts, so I think we all need to be educated first with seniors' experience like this video. Now that I know being a successful musician is a long way, I'd just rather stay true to myself and enjoy.

Thank you brother for uploading this vid again and reading this long comment. Sending love and support from South Korea.

This is a must if you’re producing music.

Man, I almost skipped over this video, this is a good lesson you're sharing. Copyright and Derivative Works aren't things that many people think about when making music.

Awesome video!! I've ran into similar situations. People can not be trusted. Paper work is a must

Always upload your work and legally document (and legally certify) your work. Simply stating that it's your work is not enough. You gotta cover yourself with the points this video advises. Great counsel. ❤️

I disagree that remixing and re-recording of an instrumental rough cut of a song constitutes copyright violation. However, I do agree that it is immoral to claim someone *else's* song as your own, regardless of the lyrical content. And there are a lot of shark producers getting away with it!

I have a question though. Most progressions in gospel are common progressions used in many other songs. In that case everything is a derivative work. Where do we draw the line?

That is a good point. Anyone can say ”I am a Christian” but it about how you follow Christ. What I am saying is you need to protect yourself and others and avert any issues with this advice given in the video.

Saying and doing what you say are different

I think at some point, all good/great musicians get shafted in the music industry. So many ppl take musicians as not being very intelligent....& that can be blamed also on musicians who are willing to sell their talents for little or nothing thus made ppl to believe musicians are just a bunch of desperate hungry guys & they can be easily manipulated because most excellent talents I know who play so darn well have no clue at all about the 'business' aspect of music. They are just excited to play & then by the time they realize whats happening, they;ve got shafted & left with little or nothing...thus why so many talented musicians are still so broke!!!..I am glad you beginning to educating the public about the business side of things and I recommend you do more of this, educating musicians about the legality & the business side of this sinister industry or musicians will continued being used because of ignorance!....Bless you bro.
