I've been towing for over 30 years and I just found out that I have been hooking up my trailers breakaway cable the wrong way. There are utube videos that show the proper way to hook them up. The way you and I and several others run the cable will not pull the brakes on the trailer. You do a great job on your videos a lot more people could learn the proper way from you.

Love the video Don. Beautiful rig. I have a 2021 Chevrolet LTZ 1500 with the 6.2 and the 10 speed trans, pulling a very similar size travel trailer with ~ 1000#s of tongue, also utilizing air lift on rear. Getting the same mpg over a 1000 mile trip and am also very happy with the max tow. One thing I did notice is that you do not run with any sort of sway control for such a long trailer. I suggest sway control. You will improve the feel tremendously.

Great video! Have not towed my 6, 400 lb. TT (loaded) with my 2022 Silverado 5.3, but it is coming as soon as the snow melts in the northern tundra (Rochester, MN). I will be using my Weigh Safe True Tow WDH and don't expect to need airbags. Payload. Yes, payload has become the big towing metric for me. The Silverado is rated to tow 9, 800 lbs. Payload is 1, 755 lbs. With my wife, son, a buddy for my son, me, my tools, and the hitch weight we are under but not as much as you would expect. Now, my challenge is how to justify the Borla exhaust and cold air intake. Fuel economy? Right...

Late to the party on this one but for those new to towing, do not try to tow this much with your AT4. I have the same truck and have been towing with it for years and just want to remind others that the AT4, with its softer off road suspension, is much more limited in towing than other (even cheaper base model) Sierras. Max towing capacity is around 9200 lbs and with the 80/20 rule you don't want to tow a trailer with a GVWR over 7, 400 lbs. Also remember that your payload, including occupants and what you carry with you in the truck plus hitch weight, is around 1, 450 lbs and that the actual tongue weight allowed is around 700 lbs. Simply put, the trailer is this video is well above what the 1500, even with some airbag mods, is capable of safely towing. Be safe out there!

Great Vid Don. Definitely going to consider the airbags for the rear. My experience with towing my trailer was that the ride is quite bouncy at times.

Awesome, and here I thought it would be weird to tow the ski boat with another tow vehicle to bring along with the TT. Sent the vid over to my wife 🤣🤣🤣

Hello, from Calgary Alberta! Thanks for the videos, Don, I have a 2021 1500 Denali with the Performance Upgrade Package that was offered from the factory. I love it, and I tow a trailer very similar to yours. I am looking to install Air Bags, I have a leveling kit and when my trailer is hooked up it looks like I am shooting for the moon.

I also wanted to mention a few things for you to try and maybe review.

Anderson Hitch System: (I use this due to the winds here in Alberta) It is the best hitch I have used and it's not only a Weight distro but has an anti-sway as well.
Arvika Bike Rack: It mounts to the front of your trailer and can hold 4 bikes, it's a Canadien-made product.
GMC Trailer Camera: I bit the bullet and got it. My trailer is too long for it but I tricked it into thinking it was shorter.

Look forward to other videos!

Dave,

Hi Don Great video! Im considering a 1500 AT4 or 1500 SLT with Max Tow upgrade. I really want the AT4 but it is not available with the Max Tow upgrade. I pull a 24 foot (30 foot overall) camper on a distribution hitch now with my 3/4 sierra duramax - no problem even here in my CO mountains. I figure the camper watered up and loaded is around 6500 lbs with about 775 lb tongue weight. I also will have about 450 lbs in the bed (two dirt bikes and ramps, fuel). and two passengers in the the cab - estimate 450lbs. passengers and gear. In you opinion, do I need Max tow upgrade on the SLT or will the AT4 work for this? I'd really like the extra ground clearance! Thank You!

I have almost the same setup you do. What gear are you in or should i ask, what gears are you locking out ? What speed transmission do you have 8 or 10 speed ?? Thanks for sharing.

Awesome! How long did it take you to be comfortable driving with a trailer attached? Did you do a course or something before you got one?

Hi Don. Do you have your spacers installed while towing? Thanks .

What is the payload of your truck? Does adding airbags increase your payload? Thanks!

Don, loved the video. Would you still recommend the air bags and compressor after having used them?

What is the range or how far can you tow before needing to fuel with your RV in tow. Do you have the standard 24 gallons or the bigger fuel tank?

I have same truck and engine, but Denali trim and get the same mileage. About 500LB lighter trailer.
