Thanks for testing the LM2. With how expensive trucks are this engine is still viable, especially if you want a Yukon or Tahoe (Yukon xl or Suburban). The LM2 is not a very old engine, i feel like many people would like to see how its been holding up, and how it competes today.

Nice to see someone testing the LM2. I have a 2021 Silverado 3.0 and it tows great. I love the thing. Exhaust brake on the LM2 is lacking for sure. In order to get it to work you have to ease on the brake for long distance before it downshifts. Really wish GM would do something with that..

A couple things.

1) no half ton is really suitable for towing a trailer like this.

2) you definitely need tow mirrors if you want to see lol.

That’s a beautiful truck and the 3.0 is the only engine I would consider if i went back to a 1500. But if people insist on towing trailers like this with a half ton they need to get the max tow package and the 6’6” bed to get the longer wheelbase.

As I load 15k trailer on my 07 suburban 😂 the dynamic suspension upgrade is the only reason it held together I think

What about the 1500 with the towing package? Up to 13, 000 lbs.
3:73 gears.
Stronger additional leaf spring.
Easily could handle 10, 000 lbs.
3/4 ton is a big truck!!
Really tough to garage and park.

I’m sure I’m not saying anything that hasn’t already been said: this is where a weight distributing hitch would be necessary. Take weight off that back axle and keep the truck from being nose-up. Still pushing the limits though, with that trailer.

So what exactly was the trailer weight? You said you were going to weigh it again as tested. But I didn't hear the number

I’m pretty certain the LZ0 is the only one with an exhaust brake in tow/haul mode

Bigger question is can the 3.0L Duramax actually last?? I know several people with them and all except 1 have been in the shop multiple times.

You need to do the newer(23 or newer) one with the upgraded 3.0L that one's the first gen

STAY AWAY! I purchased 2 GMC Sierra’s last year, the first one was a SLT and I had a few issues, mainly lack of towing features. SO… I traded it for the 3.0 AT4 and initially I LOVED IT! Then I started towing my 6, 000n lb camper. On my first trip I topped off the DEF at about 300 miles. Then 100 miles later I got the DEF LOW warning SPEED REDUCED in xxx miles. WTF! So I pulled over when I could and tried to put DEF in the tank, IT WOULD NOT TAKE IT??? I had 1000 more miles to go and I had DEF on hand, over the truck Alan was wondering WHEN WOULD THIS TRUCK STOP? Long story short, I had to find a campground, unhitch and take the truck to service. On the way to service the truck fixed itself??? They ran diagnostics and said your truck is GREAT?

I hooked up and at another 300 miles the same warning came on, then it went away just before miles were reduced. the truck was in a an out of service with no solution. My father, a former GM HD Truck Engineer said “Dump that thing” and that what I did. I now have a Ford Powerstroke 2500.. NO PROBLEMS.. GM took that truck out of the oven too soon.

If you drive to the grocery store, Lowe’s. ECT this truck is great! MPG id amazing, I actually got 30 MPG on the highway. If you actually use the truck, to work… AGAIN STAY AWAY!

It's negligent to tow that without a WDH.

Not a real diesel for towing, this is a diesel for fuel economy...the 5.3 tows more lol
