The scary part comes when you get to the point where you’ve decluttered and realize why you made certain purchases. What voids are you trying to fill. What are you trying to signal to others. What you bought says things about you and your sense of worth or sense of worthlessness. Minimalism & essentialism is much more than having a tidy space, and there are roots and branches that will lead to other things. Excellent video

Fantastic, thank you! <3

I am doing a No Buy year - believe it ;) - 5 months in and I've slipped twice, 2 purchases (small, and second hand, from thrift stores when I was making a donation and slipped back into old habits...). No Buy Year is utterly awesome for me as I really do need to declutter and I was always in the past decluttering and recluttering.

Give yourself some Grace….. exactly what I needed to hear.

Wise words.

We need more people like you in this world, Ronald. I hope that many people will join the minimalist movement, which I so much love! Less stuff in our houses, more time and energy for what it really matters! 🤩👌

It’s kind of crazy how much of a difference a cluttered space can make on your mind. I try to create a sacred space everywhere. ✨🙏🏼

Two of the tips that really resonated with me are "Consider donating instead of selling" and "Give yourself some grace'. The first since at times, the apparent lack of takers can be an impediment to decluttering, and the second, because decluttering isn't a contest about who's fastest, who's decluttering the most. I'd like to think decluttering is about a philosophy, a personal lifestyle choice and what matters is doing something instead of being paralyzed into doing nothing.

You're right, minimalism isn't the goal. Purpose, peace, intention are the goals. Amen, brother.

“Declutter as you go” definitely helps keep the clutter in check! …in fact, what’s helped me is before I even buy something I question if I really need it or if it’ll need to be decluttered in time to come. Great self-realisations you had! 🙌

I have started my decluttering journey and the first question I get asked is " are you becoming a monk " and I was humbled to think so yes, maybe someday perhaps...but thank you YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION!!!🙏🏼👏

I swear, every time you post a video it’s like you’re living inside my mind. All of these points really put me at ease as I continue to declutter. Thank you for talking about donating instead of selling by the way. There are so many things I’m still hanging onto trying to sell because I think I can make some money off of them. It’s really just creating unnecessary mental and physical clutter, and I feel like it’s doing more harm than good by these items just sitting there. Time to donate.

Once again, thanks Ron. 🙌

I followed your advice of decluttering as I live rather than on chosen moments and surprise surprise I am noticing how I still have to many (unused) items.
*Thanks Ronald!*

I donate everything. Selling us too slow & too much trouble.

I read “ The Magic of Tidying Up” but I ended up throwing away stuff I ended up wanting later on. So now I’m holding on to stuff again! I like this way much much better. If I would’ve waited and did it daily as I lived my life. I could’ve let things go knowing I don’t need them any more.

Said with beautiful eloquence. You say things so clearly without judgment.

That you for this. It's been a struggle since I went through a divorce and he left and didn't even take his own clothes. I have some of my own methods so I have a "I know it can go" box and then a "maybe" box that's out of sight under the stairs for things that I am unsure and have the "well, I could use it" and I give it a month or so and if I haven't gone searching or thought about it and missed it so much then I know my maybe box was a go box and can just take it in. I really have enjoyed your videos and how this speaks to the intentions, values and looking forward to how you want to live your life and for me after a divorce I get to really create my own space now and have even repainted. I am very open to kids toys ideas however, because that decluttering is a major deal.

I got beyond tired of the never ending dirty dishes, so I decluttered my glasses, cups and plates till we have 1 each, the rest is put in a box in the basement. Now everybody use their private 🥤🍝 every time they want to eat or drink something, and no more piles of dirty dishes 👍The best decision I've ever made.

Number 5 is hard lol But I’m doing better. I do use the one in one out. ♥️ I never sell. I always give away or donate.

The best way is to decluter while you live ! Every time I enter the bathroom, the kitchen, laundry room, closet etc ..I ask my self if there is anything to decluter or away to make the place the minimal possible! Easy !

I did a no-spend year in 2020. It was pretty hard especially when quarantine happened and you can't help but feel I've got to buy something to keep myself occupied. I made it through the year and when 2021 started I was like yeehah I can spend money again. I was shocked to find that no-spend had become a habit and I really didn't need or want to go back to my old ways. Still working on decluttering my old crap though! LOL
