Pizza review: L&B Spumoni Gardens. The regular!

I've been coming to L&B since I was a kid. I was raised in this neighborhood since the age of 20. I return several times a year and I never tried their regular round pizza. They're known for their upside down Sicilian of course, but how good is their regular round? Hit that play button and find out! Let's go eat!

Nice to see you back in your old stomping grounds of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Stay healthy and as always thank you for the review.

I must have missed this episode Antonio. The slice looked a bit dry, but i'm sure that the taste was very good like you said. The square
looked like my kind of pizza with lots of sauce and cheese on top. If the sauce is anyways near the sauce that I get from my local ITALIAN deli and restaurant, I know I will like it. I've been a customer in that place for over 50 years and i'm hooked by the secret recipie that's been handed down from generation to generation. The only thing I found out is that they also cook their meatballs and sausages
in the sauce and strain out any pieces to make it thick but smooth...I'm sorry that I always get carried away Antonio.

I see their Sicilian slices so much that I forget they also have round. It looked decent. I'd still probably get a slice to pair with the Sicilian just for the sake of variety.

hey ant. glad to see u . my cousin went there last monday as well lol around 7pm. he was told the fam bought it back from the other owners. maybe thats why now there is a big difference that is how it used to be. it was very diff with the other owners. they are using a softer dough as a lot of ppl he was told didnt like it well done or very chared. it does need much more sauce though but then they would have to make the under a little thicker, but its portioned out now it seems. cant wait to visit if i go to nyc for xmas. hope u r doing well ant. be good.

Good review. Looks like a decent slice. Still amazed at cutting those Sicilians with a boning knife.

Not too bad looking. I've always heard that their round pie isn't all that great, but I figured a place like that, with that kind of history and huge fan base, wouldn't put out anything of low quality. I noticed the lack of sauce right away, and I didn't hear you really describe the flavor or consistency of whatever sauce was there. Right away, I detected an odd yellow/green color on top of the slice, and I didn't know if it was just some weird anomaly from your camera or my computer, but then in a couple of shots, I thought it looked like maybe there was some EVOO drizzled on. I didn't see a whole lot of aeration in the cornicione, either, but that doesn't always indicate that it's overly chewy. I'm really curious about how different the dough is between the two different pizzas they do, or if it's the same dough; and if they're using a different sauce for the round, and just less of it. Seems like they'd keep it simple and use the same sauce and dough, but Sicilian dough is usually considerably wetter, by at least a good 5% to 10%. Anyway, it's great to see you staying in the game. Very enjoyable video, as always.

I couldn't tell it had any sauce at all. Undercarriage looked fantastic. You really can't really knock them, I'm sure they hardly sell too much of the round. Everybody is going for the upside-down Sicilian. If a ever make it there that's definitely what I'm ordering.

Last time I had L&B was 10 or so years ago. Good, but still prefer numerous SI pizzerias. (On kind of a side note, I sure do miss Nunzio’s.)

Ciccios is a few blocks away. I like the Sesame crust. It's unique.

I'm a sucker for pizza, even if it's not great. I have VERY very low standards for the pie!

the round is bready. my theory is they use the same dough for the squares for the rounds.

On Twitter everyone is saying you're the leader of ISIS? Is this true and if yes, what is your favorite pizzeria?
