I just noticed something, which sparked my own theory.
All of the corrupted characters were from cancelled shows, meaning the Darkness may actually be kind of like that static place in The Amazing World of Gumball. This means maybe the Darkness isn’t actually trying to take over the tv universe, but rather get rid of characters who are no longer needed in the cartoon world. As for the Adult Swim April Fools 2022 prank (which was more of a gift than a prank), the reason the characters didn’t pay any attention to the darkness was because they didn’t see anything wrong. The cartoon world always runs down the same way, regardless of what happens. This would explain why Rick, who is one of the most meta characters in cartoon history, didn’t pay any mind to what was happening to Morty, since the Darkness is part of the fourth wall, which most cartoon characters are unaware of. Pibby, however, can see the Darkness since preschool show characters are aware of the fourth wall. However, I’m still trying to figure out how the Darkness still went unnoticed in the live action show that I can’t remember the name of, since it takes place in real life. Also, how the hell did Pibby get into my bathroom :/

I might as well point out something about Mordecai. During his song Overwork, yes, the health drain is so rapid that it's almost impossible to see the losing icon. However, this isn't true. If you FC the spammy part near the end, it is possible to see it for a split second as the spammy part ends.
