I've used Arch as a server OS for about ten years - never had a problem. The 'downsides' here sound like FUD.

Thanks for highlighting problems with Arch. I was doing my first server install and I'm a 10 year linux user with Arch on my computer. So, naturally, I was tempted and did Arch install on linode for client. I now have the headache of restarting the server every week or the django server just crashes

For learning purposes, I prefer Gentoo. It delves deeper into the system and offers incredibly helpful documentation.

I've actually been thinking about installing Arch on Linode as a cloud desktop that I could remote into. Hope to tackle this soon.
