I recommend just learning words, don't worry about all the readings until you encounter it in a word.

@黒崎一護 Learn as many words as you can always. You've got over 10, 000 to learn.

Readings often get voiced (those two small dashes or small circle) based on the sound that comes before it. It's easy to see if you use kana instead of romaji: ひ -> び.

If there's no sound after a small つ, it's used to indicate a sound that's shorter than normal or cut off.

You need to increase the audio volume for your video.  Apart form that your videos are great!  Although they are simple and short, they are precise!  Love them!  Thanks Tae Kim! :)

Hey Tae Kim, your videos are amazing. I got hiragana, katakana and this first word down in a bit over a month. By the titles of your following videos, it seems they teach grammar. Which is great but how do i go about learning more kanji? Do i just buy a light novel or manga of my favourite series in japanese and translate every word i come across in jisho? (while also learning the grammar you teach, and revising both alphabets, and practising new kanji words?)

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's just "haaa" When you add a small tsu in that matter you don't double the constant, but stretch out the word.

Despite watching all of your videos, I still initially decided to just learn Kanji by themselves (after getting hiragana and katakana down). It's tough without using them in any context. Though, at the very least, I learned stroke order for most kanji radicals by doing so, and I can draw most down without much difficulty. Now I'm going back and re-learning how to use kanji with vocabulary. I'm attaching meaning and the specific reading to the kanji and compounds so I know what they mean and how to say it. Granted, there's multiple readings for many kanji, but I'll write it down when I come across them.

Quick question - If we're using the ON reading, why did you remote it's pronunciation in the slide at 3:11 in hiragana? Shouldn't the pronunciation be in katakana?

Also, Jisho has updated quite a bit since you've made this video, it might be helpful to have a new visual.

Do a google search for an online dictionary called "wwwjdic"
Look up the word there and chances are there will be a little play icon to hear the pronunciation.

Please make sure the volume is the same as the previous lessons for hiragana and katakana, which were at the perfect volume for people like me, who use hearing aids connected to the phone via bluetooth. I assume volumes that are perfect for me would be ideal for normal range hearing people as well.
