I love how 1.1.1 has 400k views and 2.3.1 only has 8k.

Hiragana seems like such a good and simple idea for a writing system. One sound, one character. It must be difficult for native Japanese speakers to learn English, our pronunciation of spellings are so inconsistent

This is the clearest overview of Japanese writing systems I have ever seen.

Kanji: "Need to learn about 2, 000 characters to reach adult reading comprehension level."

So, how many people do you think immediately gave up after reading that?

One of the first things i learned trying to learn Japanese is how complicated our English language can be, and also how similar the two can be. For example I hear people say things like "Japanese seems so hard, they have so many words that sound the same but mean different things" but so does english. Knew/New One/Won. As well as words that look the same but sound different. Read/read Live/live. And let's not forget that we also have many different words with the same meaning like Gigantic/Enormous/Huge/Massive/Great, all words that just mean Big. And that last one, Great, means Big and also can mean Good. So to anyone out there that thinks Japanese is complicated, remember that English isn't as simple as you think when you start looking at it. It's just easier for you to understand because you've been learning it since you were born. And if you can learn our complicated language that's so confusing it has a separate book known as a Thesaurus just for the amount of words we have with similar meanings, then learning Japanese isn't as daunting as it first seems.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work! I've been obsessed with the Japanese culture, language, and way of life since I was little. I've been dying to actually learn the language, and where I live there are little to no places you can do so (Which upsets me). Thank you for your help! *Plus one subscriber. :)

I'm thinking of doing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Japanese language, so my friend sent me these to read up on the language first. I have wanted to learn it for ages, but I want to have a go learning some of it by myself to see if it will hook me in enough to study it at Uni.
I am looking forward to watching the rest of these :3

I've started watching your videos as a way to get my foot in the door with learning Japanese. I eventually want to take a trip there so learning the language is kind of important to me.

I can see why there are issues with romanji but I personally am finding it helpful as a beginner. I haven't learned to read Kanji properly yet and I would write down a version of it anyway for pronunciation reminders. At least this way there is a bit of consistency among beginners so they can ask about something if they don't know the Kanji. I can see how it would be easy to rely on it though.

I long for the day in which I shall no longer need subtitles in order to watch anime!

I agree with Drachnar, the videos are really great for beginners. Compared to other videos it is always compact and never longbreathed.
However I also agree: Two more words about Hiragana and Kanji would have been great: Hiragana for particles/grammar and as reference for the pronunciation, Kanji originally representing chinese words together with their meaning but also used for replacing parts of native Japanese words instead of writing Hiragana in order to stress the meaning.
