The Worst Medical Takes On Twitter

Twitter is full of hot takes, and from time to time things get medical, much to my disappointment. Today I had Sam compile some of the most outrageous and bizarre medical takes from Twitter so I could take a look at them and set the record straight. Unsurprisingly, I get pretty upset talking about things like vaccines, AIDS, miracle cures, pee, inaccurate tattoos, cold showers, Lyme disease, ticks, TikTok trends, anemia, juice, rhinos, vitamin D, sunlight, sunburn, sugar, calories, the CDC, hand washing, hand sanitizer, vegan diets, beans, running, period products, acne, adderall, diabetes, cleaning your blood, dialysis, germs, smoking, muscle gains, HIV, malnutrition, and Elon Musk.

Thanks to BadMedicalTakes on Twitter for pulling so many of these together!

I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

The amount of adult men who think women can control their periods is insane. I once bled through and a guy asked me why I didn’t just wait to go to the bathroom to have my period. It’s not like pee I can’t control when it comes out. Need to teach better biology in schools.

"What happens on twitter" is unironically a great psychological question that needs to be studied and science-fied.

I find the “adderall is an anger enhancer” funny because I was starting to hate myself for how angry I was all the time before I got diagnosed with adhd and started treatment. In my case it reduced my anger significantly because I was no longer constantly frustrated with all the “easy” things that I couldn’t do. And I finally understood why I was struggling and had the tools to help

As a guy, I hate guys who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. It's one of the main reasons why I think twice before shaking someone's hand. I don't wanna touch the hand of someone who has touched that region of themselves and not washed their hands afterwards.

I had a guy ask me how I pee when I’m on my period…he thought girls stopped peeing for that week so we could bleed, then start peeing again afterwards. I’ve also met guys who thought we pee from our vaginas, who thought we had only two holes down there, who thought women could choose when we bled and just stop whenever we wanted. I’ve met too many guys who have really terrible knowledge of female anatomy.

My grandson, was three years old when he was diagnosed with type one diabetes, the number of people that asked if he would "grow out of it" was incredible!

Girl I went to school with had her period during class and it was all over the chair.... I couldn't even begin to imagine how embarrassing and horrifying that must have been for her. I going to go out on a limb and say, even if girls could choose when they have their period, they would never choose school as the place to have it.

The worst one I’d ever seen on Twitter was this girl saying how “sunblock is toxic” and that there’s no need for it because our skin is like a solar panel and sunburn is actually “Sun nutrition”

Thanks for correcting the acne take — the amount of judgement I get for cystic acne as an adult is insane

As a PhD using and teaching social statistics, the one on hand washing was legit painful... how can people be so confused about percentages

The diabetic one. I’m type 1 diabetic and I used to hang out with a friend when I was younger, his mom was diagnosed with type 2 and she called my house and left a message blaming me to infected her with diabetes…. I was like 9. My mom laughed so hard

As someone who started suffering bad acne aged 10, and was told things like wash your face, cut out sugar cut out dairy, or go on a diet and I actually did them all (as well as medication) before I even turned 15, hearing Dr Mike call out those people like that, even just briefly, just made me smile.

I’m still in shock about how few people wash their hands after using the bathroom. Even if you only go pee how can you go around and presume the shake anyone’s hand without washing it? Bloody disgusting!

I had severe anemia a year ago. My RBC got down to 2, my Hemoglobin was 4.1, and my Hematocrit was 14. I ended up needing 20 units of blood in 1 month. So thank you to everyone that donates blood. You saved my life. A couple of times, now.

My biggest pet peeve is people posting misinformation on subjects they know nothing about. People don’t realize how truly dangerous it can be

6:34 i once saw something that said "we would treat sunburns much more serious if we called them by their real name: radiation burns" and that is one of the truest things i have ever heard

Seeing this, I’m no longer surprised at how we can have so many global outbreaks of new diseases and resurgence of old diseases thought to be gone.

Another problem following the "just hold your period" problem: it seems like they're under the impression that it's a one-and-done deal— go to the bathroom, bleed a bit and call it good. Far from it! It's a 4-7 day ordeal! 🙄

My sister has type 1 diabetes and I hate it when people just assume type 1 diabetes is the same as type 2 diabetes and I thank you for bringing just enough attention to explain the difference. Keep doing what you’re doing 💜

The number of people who feel the need to comment on skin conditions is horrible. I have rosacea (which can look like acne) and everyone seems to have a take on it. I do my best to manage it, but there's only so much you can do.
