This is one of the best quick explanations of deer sign, cover, bedding, and transition area.

I have been hunting these transition areas for decades . I typically hunt the ‘ curtains ‘ ( curtains are transitional borders that define grassy bedding grounds and farm fields that transition to hardwoods or swamps and low ground areas where thick cover is) and you can always find scrapes and rub lines that follow the curtains as well as bottle neck runs that funnel into adjacent patches of hardwoods, separating the bedding grounds and feeding grounds by rivers / beaver ponds, or ridge lines that deer travel along .

Well, depending on terrain. I was walking and scouting through a huge open hardwood with great terrain differences. I found myself running into big sign. Fresh sign. Everything stated that there was bucks in the area. But holy smokes would rather have your second example of something thicker and actual bedding instead of huge open woods where getting close is almost impossible. Most of the bedding was at the end right off points. Also found some buck beds on the down wind sides of saddles where deer will naturally funnel. The low areas hold sign a lot longer but there was deer and deer sign in the lower areas. Sometimes I think how in the world does anyone come in these areas and shoot big deer. They can hear and see you for a long ways. Still always fun learning, you can never learn to much when you’re hunting mature deer.

This short is better than 99% of the 30-minute videos I've seen on this subject lmao. Everything you need to know in 30 seconds or less
