Newton is a world-famed email app that shutdown back in September 2018 and is now back with us. The app challenges the likes of Spark Mail, Airmail and many more and was used by over 40,000 subscribers.

I wanted to just share my honest thoughts and cover this story :-)

Things they didn't do: create a web app.

But the big thing I am thinking: email is a core IT infrastructure piece. It has become a critical piece of communication both internally and externally for companies. The application that users use to interact with their email has to be a stable and reliable as the infrastructure that delivers the email. As a business person I would not consider an application that is running for a couple of years, then "goes away" for 3-4 months and suddenly returns.

Was waiting for Spark to launch on Android and Windows platforms, sadly that has not happened yet. Plus there are not many effective good options on Android and almost nothing useful on Windows platform. So it's was no brainer to go back again to NewtonMail, my best email experience till date. Hope this time NewtonMail will hold strong.

Been using Mailbird on windows and native gmail on galaxy S9 after Newton shutdown. Now since it came back, I jumped ship on my android and iPad. Mailbird is great on windows and I have lifetime license, so have installed both. For android there is no email app like Newton and probably the only one which has read receipts. I loved Newton and will keep using them, hopefully this time they can go longer.

I couldn’t get back on quick enough.

Unlike many of the alternatives, Newton is available across all the platforms I use and provides me with the same functionality and experience on each. That allows me to manage/triage/respond to email wherever/whenever I need to.

Newton offers me a seamless bi-directional integration with ToDoist which is a cornerstone to my personal productivity.

And finally the user interface is so minimalistic and a pleasure to use. Everything is there but not screaming in your face.

I am more than willing to pay for a quality product that meets my needs.

Will it be here for the long run? Only time will tell. But I searched for a suitable replacement and found that I had to make compromises on every alternative. So I will enjoy it while it is with us.

I've been using Missive too and they are an excellent company. It's a great app and their customer service is terrific. That being said, I logged into Newton and within 5 minutes I remembered why I loved it so much. So intuitive and minimal. I'm jumping back on the Newton train knowing if they bail on us again I have an excellent fallback option with Missive. To be clear, I'm not leaving Missive because of anything negative. It's an awesome app, but Newton just works better for me. One thing... Lets hope for some dark mode soon...

Tried Airmail, then Postbox, then Spark, then Newton, i would continue Newton if the price were lower and with the Newton history who knows if it will keep working?! I'll stick with Spark, happy so far in MacOS and IOS.

Newton broke my heart; I don’t think I can spend money with them again and leave me hanging!! It was my favorite cross platform email app.

I've been jumping around with email apps and tbh considering none of the other players managed to launch on Android, I'll give them another go. Still the best in-app experience I've had, notwithstanding their terrible communication.

When people are used to free email, I don't think charging an upfront yearly subscription fee is a great idea. I am desperately searching for alternatives to Google Inbox, Newton is nowhere near as good (although it looks like it could get there) and stupidly expensive for what it is.

What a brilliant bit news hearing its still going. Best out there by a mile! Yearly cost is a bargain compared to missive and polymail.

From the time they announced the shutdown my Newton account never stopped working on both my Mac and iOS devices, I had Spark as a backup but never had to use it. Anybody else experience this?

Spark went way ahead and being free there is no reason for users to go back to Newton. I am not bullish on emails anyway, I feel that services like slack will evolve in providing service which moves all of us from emails. Andy Rubin made another mistake after essential mobile phones launch in buying cloud magic.

Nice UI/UX. Newton's Gmail "support" was laughably bad though and i'm sad to see they are back without addressing this shortcoming. I wish them the best of luck.

Will there be a monthly subscription option? If not, I get the feeling that Newton might get sunk... again.
