I have been using a computer for a long time. CTRL + Shift + scroll was my big missing piece. Now it will make my work much easier in excel

I've always used my mouse's tilting scroll wheel to go sideways (Logitech M510). Thing is, if the scrolling doesn't work immediately, you can just tilt the wheel _while hovering over the actual horizontal scroll bar in Excel_ for a second or two. That'll force Excel to figure out that you want the wheel tilt to control the horizontal scrolling. From then on, it'll work, and Excel does seem to remember it each time you open the spreadsheet. (I'm still on Excel 2010 btw) Cheers.

You can also use Alt + Page up or Alt + Page down to do the exact same thing with a keyboard.

Another method I use is to just click [down] the mouse wheel to bring up the 4-Way control that will follow the cursor allowing you to scroll up/down/left/right as needed. Click again to stop this action. Note: the center button can be set with different uses in the Mouse Settings.
