I somewhat agree with what you're saying, but after using self service for a while and moving to a subscription service.
It's more of paying for Quality of Service.

What doesn't help is that most self-service cameras and software (if free) usually are tied together and would still require replacing every camera anyway.

This is exactly correct. I've started using this information in our sales approach when bidding against Verkada. The customers need to be made aware, that as soon as their subscription ends, their camera life ends, as well.

This video is deceptive, Verkada has video monitoring included, does your camera does that? Verkada has 10 year warranty, does yours? Verkada will ship you a new camera and replace your existing one if it fails, shipped free of charge, and tons more, a lot more to mention, so verkada is not just a regular ip camea. Verkada has face recognition too.

Apparently not true about Rhombus blocking a camera forever

What am i paying verkada every year for? Nothing. So what are you talking about?

Isn’t this just “subscription”? Same applies to say, paying for a movie on Sky, or Amazon Prime. Leave the overall service, and lose access to what you purchased.

Besides, with these brands you’re paying for their software too, it’s not just a dumb camera with a simple feed to a monitor. You’re being rather disingenuous here.
