Centos:How to Resolve Another app is currently holding the yum lock (see descritpion below)

problem : yum can't update
error message:Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit...
The other application is: yum

Do not see yum.pid file, even get same message: the there application is: yum. Any suggestions?
