Chandelier catches fire killing over 100 people at a wedding in northern Iraq

More than 100 people were killed and 150 people injured in a fire at a wedding celebration in the district of Hamdaniya in Iraq’s Nineveh province, according to Iraqi state media.

The fire ripped through a large events hall in the north-eastern region after fireworks were lit during the celebration. An eyewitness said hundreds of people were in attendance at the time of the incident.

Indoor fireworks are very dangerous. Back in 2003 at The Station nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island fireworks killed 100+ people!

What were the organizers even thinking about? Lets fire some pyrotechnics towards a flammable ceiling installation inside a build clad with flammable cladding and having inadequate fire escapes. Ooooh look! It caught fire. Yeah, heat rises. RIP poor people.

I heard roughly 1, 000 people attended this wedding.. Imagine arriving to such a special event, never in a million years would you ever think 10% of the people here will die tonight. Fire is a no joke, my uncle has worked all his life for his business and last year, all his expensive products got burn, he lost almost 12 million dollars but he was glad that no one got hurt. I can't imagine losing family and friends in a blink of an eye ..

Fires like that are always horrible. They spread so quickly. If people were all able to jump up and immediately try to run out, there would still be casualties. People don't deserve this fate. Organizers have to stop using pyrotechnics indoors. My sincere condolences to everyone in that room and the relatives and friends that weren't.

Pyrotechnics indoors is just a BAD idea. Nightclubs, public halls, concerts etc. Just a really bad idea
